The Blankets (and Bedding) You’ll Use All Year Long

To survive the colder months, your home should be comfortable and cozy. An easy way to achieve that is by tweaking your bedding (and couch blanket situation). Cuddling up under a soft, cushy comforter and reading a book or wrapping a snuggly blanket around you while lounging on the couch is simply unbeatable. Thankfully, it doesn’t require much effort. The sweet spot, however, is choosing products that make you feel toasty without the whole overheating part. From fleece blankets to flannel sheets and a portable pillow that doubles as a heating pad, here are some beyond-comfortable bedding options you’ll love.

Toonow Fleece Blanket

I bought this blanket because I wanted something cozy yet affordable that looks as good as it feels. It has a fleecy double-sided design and a stitched diamond-shaped pattern, which makes it look expensive. It’s also warm but not so warm that you feel like you’re overheating, which is a plus. I got this blanket in the throw size, but it’s also available in twin, queen, and king if you want to use it as a bedspread.

Vellux Insulated Blanket

My family should get an award for how many Vellux blankets we’ve collected through the years. It’s easy to see why though, these blankets are freaking comfortable and last for years. They have a plush, velvety-smooth texture, a durable design that doesn’t rip or tear easily, an insulated core, and a lightweight feel that doesn’t come across as cheap. These blankets also wash great — I’ve thrown mine in the washing machine more times than I can count, and the quality hasn’t diminished at all. 

Buffy Breeze Comforter

Comforters run the gamut. Some are too heavy and overbearing, while others are too thin and lightweight. Buffy’s Breeze Comforter, which I’ve been sleeping under for more than a year, hits a perfect balance between comfortable and cozy without making you sweat or shiver throughout the night. Dubbed on its website as one the most reviewed and awarded comforters on the internet, it’s easy to see why it’s generated so much attention. For one, it’s incredibly soft and fluffy and comes encased in a sateen weave lyocell shell — lyocell has better moisture-absorbing properties than cotton, which comes in handy if you sweat at night. It’s also hypoallergenic and can be used all year round. I’ve slept with mine during every season, and it’s been a dream. Pair it with the brand’s Breeze Duvet Cover, which is temperature-regulating. 

Lovesac Footsac Blanket

Not to be dramatic, but this Lovesac blanket has revealed to me new levels of cozy I didn’t even know existed. It might look like a standard throw blanket, but it has a secret weapon: a wide foot pocket that keeps your feet so warm and toasty that once you slip your toes into it, you’ll never want to take them out. Genius. It’s crafted with faux fur, has a cotton blend backing, and is big enough to share, which comes in handy when my boyfriend and I are watching Netflix on the couch.

Parachute Organic Ribbed Knit Throw

Parachute has become synonymous with high-quality bedding, and this throw blanket is no exception. It’s made from 100% organic cotton and has a soft, stretchy feel with a ribbed texture. I’ve used this blanket on my couches, armchairs, and beds and even wrapped it around me while working at the dining room table. Its versatile, streamlined silhouette makes it easy to carry from room to room. 

Laura Ashley Flannel Sheets

I’m a sucker for Laura Ashley dresses — there’s something so nostalgic about them — so the fact that the brand has sheets available at a reasonable price is a real treat. This floral sheet and pillowcase set is an easy way to make beds cozier during the cooler months without spending much money. They’re made from a comfortable cotton flannel and have a breathable, lightweight air about them. I’m eyeing the Audrey pink and cream color option, but all of them are stylish.

OstrichPillow Heatbag

Technically, the OstrichPillow Heatbag isn’t exactly bedding, but I just had to include it because it’s genuinely changed my life for the better. For one, it’s a great item to have on hand if you have any aches or pains or are looking for an easier way to stay warmer in bed without busting out the space heaters or heating pads. I’ve used mine for menstrual cramps, stiff necks, migraines, and for feeling more relaxed at the end of the day. The cover is machine-washable and the removable natural clay insert is what gives the smooth, heat-emitting side its warmth. Just heat it up by nuking it in the microwave for 55 seconds (yes, that’s the exact number). When you don’t need heat, you can opt for the pillowy side instead. I always have this on hand at home, and I bring it with me in my luggage while traveling, so I’m never without it.
