Indoor air quality wasn’t something I gave a ton of thought to until I met my boyfriend. When we moved into our first apartment together, his top priority wasn’t picking out a couch, but instead finding the perfect air purifier. After going through a couple of duds that just didn’t quite cut it, we landed on a True HEPA Air Purifier from Clorox, and it has made a world of difference. We have run this unit nearly every day in our New York City home (complete with two cats) for the past two years without any issues, which is impressive considering just how much it has to filter on a daily basis. If you’ve been putting off getting an air purifier, you’re in luck. As part of Amazon Prime Day, Clorox is slashing the price of its True HEPA Air Purifier for medium rooms by 25%.

Clorox True HEPA Air Purifier
I have to give it to my boyfriend. Once you realize many pollutants are in your indoor air, you’ll never want to be without an air purifier again. This may sound shocking, but according to the American Lung Association, indoor air can be between two to five times more polluted than outdoor air, and in some extreme cases, 100 times more polluted. And the pollution isn’t just from the usual culprits, like cigarette smoke, car fumes, or lingering wildfire smoke that’s crept its way inside. The scented candles you burn during dinner for ambiance, the wood-burning fireplace you use during cozy nights in, even the meals you cook and accidentally leave on the stovetop too long — all of these contribute to poor indoor air quality. Pet dander, allergens, and dust can make matters even worse.
Thankfully, Clorox’s True HEPA purifiers don’t just filter out 99.97% of allergens and particulates, and 99.9% of viruses and bacteria. They also help answer the question of what’s making your indoor air so bad. That’s because one of its best features, in my opinion, is the built-in sensor, which tracks how various factors affect your indoor air quality. It displays real-time data on a digital screen — the higher the PM (particulate matter) count, the worse the air. There’s also a front light panel that changes color based on air quality: green means good, maroon not so much. Over time, it’s become something of a game in our home, watching the number spike while cooking, opening windows, or using cleaning products, then trying to bring it back down.
What makes Clorox’s True HEPA purifiers so effective at filtering is their multi-layered approach. A pre-filter captures larger particles like dust and pet hair; a True HEPA filter removes allergens and fine particulates, along with of airborne viruses and bacteria; and an activated carbon filter helps eliminate VOCs and odors. The auto mode is also very convenient, automatically adjusting the filter fan speed based on the level of pollutants detected. And if you’re tech-inclined, some versions are Alexa-compatible, making usage even more convenient.
As for aesthetics, Clorox makes some of the nicest-looking air purifiers I’ve seen on the market. They’re sleek, unassuming, and don’t take up too much space. Their touchscreen tops are intuitive, and their 360-degree design means they efficiently pull in air from all directions. They’re also pretty quiet, so you don’t have to worry about any loud, overwhelming whirring noises in the background while watching TV or taking Zoom meetings. The one caveat is that you just have to remember to switch out the filter every six to 12 months.
From someone who once upon a time didn’t give their indoor air a second thought, I can’t believe I went a good portion of my life without using an air purifier. Now I breathe easier, literally, knowing my home is healthier and fresher with just the tap of a button.
