Like many people, I’ve been hearing the advice to wear sunscreen since childhood. When I was younger, it was usually my mother or grandmother saying it at the beach, slathering Coppertone or Banana Boat on me before I ran off to build sand castles with my siblings. As I got older, the message took on a more serious tone, delivered by dermatologists who stressed the importance of protecting myself against sun spots and skin cancer.
As someone with sensitive skin, graduating from wearing whatever sunscreen my mom put on me when I was a kid to sunscreen that I actually like seemed like a near-impossible feat, until I bought my first Supergoop. Supergoop was in my orbit for a while before I made the jump and purchased some of the stuff myself — popping up on friends’ Instagram stories, in my peripheral while shopping at Sephora, and appearing in magazine articles I’d read. Drawn to its cute name and laid-back yellow, navy, and white branding, Supergoop’s Play sunscreen hooked me about five years ago, and ever since then, it is the only sunscreen I will use. Hard stop. In short, I like absolutely everything about it. And now it’s on sale as part of Amazon Prime Day, which is the perfect time to stock up.

Supergoop! Play Sunscreen SPF 50
Something I’ve learned through my sunscreen search is that “wear sunscreen” sounds easy enough, until it’s time to actually find one that works for you. I’ve tried my fair share throughout the years — inexpensive drugstore versions that left a white cast after application, greasy picks that made me break out, and high-end options that came in teeny, tiny tubes with formulas so matte they quickly dried out my skin.
Supergoop’s Play sunscreen is none of the above. Instead, it’s smooth and creamy, absorbing quickly without leaving any sticky or tacky residue behind. I’ve tried the Unseen formula, and while many love it, it left too much of a velvety film on my skin. I’ve also purchased the (Re)Setting mist a few times, though I found it didn’t provide enough coverage. The Play formula is hydrating and makes my skin look and feel nourished. In fact, whenever I wear it on my face, I usually get compliments on my skin. People often ask, “What highlighter are you wearing?” When I tell them it’s just my sunscreen, they scramble to jot down the name of it in their phone’s Notes app. I bought some for my younger sister, and she’s a fan now too.
Beyond just looking and feeling good, it’s also water and sweat-resistant for up to 80 minutes, has a delicate scent (a plus, since I can’t handle strong fragrances), and is non-comedogenic, which is helpful if you’re someone, like me, who has a history of breaking out. According to its website, it’s also the first traditional sunscreen created without oxybenzone. If you’re not familiar, oxybenzone is a popular UV-filtering sunscreen ingredient that is linked to hormone disruption and other health issues and has been banned in certain areas because of its toxicity to marine life. Supergoop Play is instead crafted with ingredients like rosemary and bran extracts, which soften the skin; sunflower extract, which helps defend against external elements; and natural extracts like orange and basil, which give it its pleasant scent.
I usually buy the standard 5.5-ounce size, which is on sale for $29 right now, since it’s wonderfully easy to tote around. I’ve also been toying with the idea of picking up the 18-ounce version, discounted to $54, to keep on my vanity, since I can’t get enough of it.
