In the summer of 2023, I experienced a particularly uncomfortable episode of cervicalgia, AKA neck pain. Unfortunately, this wasn’t new for me. Like many individuals who spend long hours sitting in front of a computer, neck strain often makes its unwanted appearance. This condition is so common that a term was coined to describe it: “tech neck.”

I had already tried physical therapy and osteopathy, both of which had positive effects, but I was curious to explore additional solutions. Acupuncture and acupressure intrigued me but I don’t particularly enjoy needles (who does?), and you typically need several sessions with an experienced practitioner for acupuncture to be effective. That’s both time-consuming and expensive, two luxuries we can’t all afford. However, I noticed growing enthusiasm for at-home acupressure mats and pillows instead. At first, lying down on a mat full of spikes wasn’t a pleasant experience, but over time, I began enjoying those sessions that released my back tensions. After testing both mats and pillows, I prefer using the latter.

Prices are accurate as of March 28, 2025. Subject to change.

How Acupressure Pillows Work

In a professional acupuncture session, tiny needles are placed on specific parts of the body called acupoints. It’s believed that they stimulate the central nervous system, releasing chemicals that jump-start your body’s natural healing abilities. Acupressure mats and pillows trade needles for plastic “spikes” that should hit the same acupoints and trigger a similar response.

Acupressure pillows, while specifically developed for the neck, can also be used on other body parts, like the back or the abdomen. They are affordable and using one fits well into a busy schedule. I use my pillow while watching movies, reading, listening to audiobooks, or working on my computer.

How to Use an Acupressure Pillow

Generally speaking, it’s valuable to discuss acupressure pillow use with a healthcare professional, even more so if you have health conditions for which it may be contraindicated. It’s important to note that an acupressure pillow likely can’t replace physical therapy for serious injuries, but it can be a helpful tool to ease some tension.

Using an acupressure pillow while sitting, either against a wall or a chair with a high backrest, works particularly well to treat the lower part of the neck or the back. Using it on other parts of the neck could be slightly more challenging but still doable. For the upper part of my neck, I find it more effective to lie down. To target the sides, I put the pillow on a shoulder and gently bow my head laterally.

A single session for me can last quite long, but it’s best to avoid using the pillow in the same spot for prolonged periods. Consult the specific recommendations for the pillow you buy, but beginners should start slow and work up to longer sessions.

DoroSun Acupressure Pillow

You don’t need an expensive acupressure pillow to reap its benefits. At 25 dollars, this DoroSun pillow does its job with durable materials. It uses 1,782 plastic spikes to alleviate your tensions, and while it may be uncomfortable at first, don’t despair — it will soon become a walk in the park! I also love that you can choose among several colors, from bright green and pink to more neutral ones. Your pillow can easily match your home’s vibe.

Say Goodbye to Cavities With These Oral Hygiene Products

Just like eating healthy and exercising regularly, oral care is a crucial part of your overall health. Cavities, gum disease, and other oral diseases can cause pain and infection, decreasing your quality of life. According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, one in five adults has untreated cavities, and nearly half of all adults over 30 have a serious gum disease called periodontitis. But you don’t have to suffer or spend your cash on unplanned dental care if you start with a thorough oral hygiene routine at home. From toothbrushes to dental floss and everything in between, several products can keep your teeth healthy and clean. These are some of our favorites.

Prices are accurate as of July 2, 2026. Subject to change.

Colgate 360 Whole Mouth Toothbrush

You can’t have a good oral hygiene routine without a toothbrush. Many prefer manual brushes because they’re no-frills and affordable. I’ve been using Colgate’s 360 Whole Mouth Toothbrush for years, as I love its unique and thoughtful design. In addition to cleaning bristles, it has polishing cups that help with plaque and stain removal, plus a textured surface behind the toothbrush head for cleaning the tongue and cheeks. The brush is available in both soft and medium, depending on your preference. I’ve consistently opted for soft bristles and found that it offers a gentle yet effective clean on my sensitive teeth.

Philips Sonicare 4100 Power Toothbrush

If you want to upgrade from a manual, try an electric toothbrush. While they’re more expensive, many find them worth the investment. A sonic toothbrush, in particular, gives your teeth a good cleaning with high-frequency vibrations. One of the best sonic toothbrushes you can get is the Philips Sonicare 4100. Earning the spot of our favorite sonic brush, this Sonicare is more affordable than other electric toothbrushes. With a built-in two-minute timer, two intensity levels, and a smart pressure sensor, you can efficiently remove plaque while being gentle on gums. As a bonus, it also has a long, 14-day battery life, so you can spend more time brushing and less time charging.

Crest Pro-Health Toothpaste

A trusty toothbrush won’t do you much good without an equally high-quality toothpaste. Fluoride toothpaste is the standard since it strengthens enamel and protects your teeth against cavities. Crest Pro-Health has a smooth yet foamy paste that’s formulated with stannous fluoride. It not only protects against cavities and strengthens enamel but also helps prevent early gum disease, acid erosion, tartar, and plaque. Crest Pro-Health also whitens teeth, freshens breath, and is great for sensitive teeth.

Cocolab Cocofloss

Flossing is an essential part of good oral hygiene. It removes food and bacteria from in between teeth that your toothbrush can’t reach and it helps prevent cavities and gum disease. One of our favorite options is Cocofloss. Co-founded by a dentist, Cocofloss has a textured design made from over 500 interwoven threads meant to better capture plaque, bacteria, and food particles. With coconut oil and microcrystalline wax, it glides between teeth smoothly and comfortably. The floss also has a refillable dispenser, so you can buy refills, cutting back on plastic and waste. It’s also a great pick for those craving a little flavor in their tooth care routine. In addition to classic mint, there are various fun flavors like coconut and strawberry.

GUM EEZ-Thru Floss Threaders

Standard floss might be difficult to use if you have braces, dental bridges, or dental implants. The Eez-Thru threaders work like a needle threader. Put a piece of floss in the loop, stick the end of the threader between your teeth and pull it through until only the floss remains. Floss as normal, comfortably tackling plaque, food particles, and bacteria in tough-to-reach spots. The threaders also come in a convenient carry case for flossing on the go.

COSLUS Water Flosser

In addition to using dental floss, consider adding a water flosser to elevate your oral hygiene routine. When the two are combined, buildup between teeth doesn’t stand a chance. There are many water flossers out there, but I’ve been using this model from Coslus. It’s equipped with fine water pulse technology and multiple modes and pressure settings, plus a large water tank, and multiple flosser heads. The wireless design makes it easy to use and perfect for travel — and I love its long, 30-day battery life. Once I started using this, after years of only standard flossing, I realized how many missed particles it picks up. I can’t recommend it enough.

There’s something empowering about mending your own clothes. It’s a small rebellion against fast fashion. It’s creative expression. And it’s a practical way to extend the life of the clothes you love. Visible mending makes your clothes into personal art. Patching gives new life to worn-in jeans. Reinforcing seams ensures your wardrobe is built to last — working with you instead of against you. Mending your own clothes is equal parts skill, creativity, and self-sufficiency. Having the right tools makes the process easier and a lot more fun. Whether you’re new to mending or looking to upgrade your toolkit, these are the supplies you’ll want to keep close at hand. The more you mend, the more confident you’ll become in your skills. Before long, you might even find yourself tackling bigger projects like altering thrifted finds or even sewing your own clothes from scratch. Happy mending!

Lecien Sashiko Needles

Not all needles are created equal, but this versatile assortment from Lecien Japan covers all your bases. They’re technically for sashiko, a Japanese mending technique, but they can be used for just about anything. Whether you’re hand-stitching a delicate hem or darning holes in sweaters, you’ll find exactly the needle you need in this pack. As you might guess, they’re also perfect for sashiko-style visible mending. I like these needles because they feel sturdy in hand and slide easily through fabrics without snagging. I especially appreciate how neatly they stayed organized in their convenient case. I have lost way too many needles to my couch only to find them, painfully, later. This case helps keep everything together. With multiple sizes included, you’re ready for everything from sturdy denim to your favorite silk blouse.

Investing in high-quality thread means you’re less likely to deal with breakage or fraying, ensuring your repairs last as long as possible.

When patching holes or reinforcing worn areas, choosing the right fabric makes all the difference. You want a material that matches the stretch and weight of your garment. Plus, keeping a stash of fabric scraps around is great for getting creative with repairs — fixing an unfortunate tear with an embroidered patch adds a little statement to any garment.

Why Everyone Should Have a Humidifier

Ali Eldridge
Health | Updated: March 9, 2026
Better Report

All featured products and deals are selected independently and objectively by the author. Better Report may receive a share of sales via affiliate links in content.

You might associate humidity with hot summer days and frizzy hair but hear us out, everyone should invest in a humidifier. Whether you’re fighting off the cold, dry winter, or experiencing seasonal allergies in spring and summer, dry air can have a major impact on your comfort and health. From itchy skin to respiratory issues, there’s a laundry list of symptoms you can experience from low humidity. Adding back in humidity with the right humidifier easily helps alleviate the effects. Some of our favorite options are below. Whichever one you go with, be sure to keep it clean so you don’t introduce new problems — we’ve outlined how to use one safely.

Prices are accurate as of February 12, 2026. Subject to change.

How to Safely Use a Humidifier

According to the United States Environmental Protection Agency, the ideal humidity level to improve your indoor air quality is between 30 and 50 percent. With low humidity and dry air, there’s a chance you might experience irritation with your skin, nose, throat, and lungs. On the other hand, too much humidity can potentially lead to mold growth, which has its own host of health problems.

To use a humidifier safely, Dr. John McKeon, CEO and founder of Allergy Standards Limited (ASL), recommends choosing one that’s the correct size for your space (use a square footage calculator if you aren’t sure). Also, keep a hygrometer on hand to avoid overusing your humidifier.

How to Clean a Humidifier

If you use a humidifier, it’s imperative that you keep it super clean. If it’s not cleaned regularly, you run the risk of bacteria and mold building up in the humidifier and being released into the air. That can bring on a variety of symptoms likely more uncomfortable than the effects of dry air that you were trying to alleviate with a humidifier in the first place. While it’s rare, the last thing you want is humidifier lung, a.k.a. hypersensitivity pneumonitis,  an inflammatory lung condition that could be brought on by inhaling contaminated humidifier water.

Dr. McKeon recommends cleaning humidifiers every three days, following the guidelines provided by the specific brand, with distilled or demineralized water rather than tap water.

Regular maintenance is also a must when using humidifiers. “This includes timely filter replacements and regular inspections for mold or mineral deposits,” Dr. McKeon says. Additionally, he encourages emptying and rinsing the tank daily.

On auto-mode, it detects and maintains humidity levels, which is perfect for not over-humidifying your room. You can also control it with an app and voice commands via Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant to adjust mist settings or set timers and schedules.

It uses two Dreo cartridges to elevate your humidifying experience. The demineralization cartridge descales the humidifier and reduces limescale and the clean mist cartridge uses a three-layer cleaning system and silver ion pellets to clean the water before it’s released into the air.

In addition to being a match for large rooms, it’s also specifically great for plant owners. Using plant mode in the app, scan and identify plants to customize care. There’s also a library of helpful plant information. But that’s not all — the humidifier also doubles as an essential oil diffuser with an aroma box that you can add a few drops of your favorite essential oil to.

Outdoor pizza ovens have become an increasingly popular addition to backyard entertainment in recent years, and it’s easy to see why. Pizza ovens offer a combination of convenience, flexibility, flavor, and undeniable showmanship that’s hard to replicate with traditional cooking methods. Choosing the right oven for your setup, however, can be a daunting decision with many factors at play. With varying options to consider such as size, material, fuel type, and price point, it’s important to assess your needs and priorities when hunting down a pizza oven that complements your entertaining style and cooking preferences.

I tested out some of the market’s top-rated outdoor pizza ovens, from affordable and basic to high-end models with advanced features. Read more to find out how these pizzeria-style ovens can take your family pizza nights and patio get-togethers to the next level, and discover which model best fits your experience level, needs, and budget.

Prices are accurate as of May 13, 2026. Subject to change.

Ninja Woodfire Outdoor Pizza Oven

BUY FOR $280 AT AMAZON

I hadn’t heard too much buzz about Ninja’s pizza oven while researching baseline, frills-free options, but it surprised me in the best way possible. After using it for a few pizza nights, I can say the performance is perfect for those who are new to making homemade pizzas and aren’t necessarily vaunted pros just yet.

The electric oven heats up to a temperature of your choice in around 25 minutes and makes cooking your 12-inch, signature-style pizzas easy to conquer from the start. To work the oven, turn the dial to pizza and choose between the different style settings, including Neapolitan, thin, New York, pan, frozen, or custom. These selections come with pre-set but adjustable times that remove any potential confusion that comes along with the more advanced oven models.

I tested the Ninja with an easy homemade pepperoni pizza, as well as a pre-made frozen pizza. I was surprised by just how quickly and efficiently it cooked them without any hiccups, inconsistencies, or confusion. The best part? You don’t have to babysit it; there’s no need to turn the pizza or monitor the heat along the way.

The pizza crust gets that signature, chef’s kiss brick-oven char, decadent crunch, and bubbly cheese. I wouldn’t say the results are going to rival some of the other expensive ovens featured on this list, but for a more affordable, beginner-friendly option, the delicious results are worth the price. Perhaps one of the main pros of this oven is that even at a lower price point than the competition, it’s not a one-trick pony you only pull out on pizza nights. Add flavored wood pellets if you want to experiment with smoked meats or roasts, or use it to bake, broil, or dehydrate. This is a reasonable oven to consider, especially if you don’t plan on making pizzas religiously.

Solo Stove Pi Prime Pizza Oven

BUY FOR $400 AT AMAZON

Like the Ninja, the Solo Stove Pi Prime Pizza Oven is a great option for novice-to-advanced home chefs who want to cook pizzeria-style pies. I first discovered the Solo Stove brand through their top-performing fire pits, so I was curious what experience the Pi Prime Pizza Oven had in store for my 12-inch creations.

This durable, 30-pound oven heats up to a max of around 950 degrees Fahrenheit and uses propane to cook. While I was unsure how well I would be able to operate it at first glance, the set-up and execution experience is almost as seamless as the Ninja with a few extra bells and whistles to boot.

The oven takes around 20 minutes to properly heat up, and I recommend you allow ample time to let it preheat. I tried to cut it short once and noticed my pizza was much less crispy and crunchy. The heat/flame is controlled by an adjustable knob on the front, so you’re able to set your exact preference, whether that’s for whipping up puffy calzones or thin-crust personal pies.

As you get familiar with the oven, you’ll discover minor adjustments that can be made to suit your personal preferences, and it’s not a huge hurdle to conquer. For example, I had to learn how to gauge exactly how long my pizza needed to cook depending on its thickness, so nailing down cooking time with this oven really does make all the difference. This Solo Stove pizza oven doesn’t include an internal temperature gauge you can read, so I used an infrared thermometer so I could know exactly how hot it was at various stages. Not having the temperature displayed right on the oven wasn’t a dealbreaker for me, however, you might find the lack of guidance something you’ll have to get used to.

I didn’t think turning the pizza would make much of a difference, so on my first try I left the Pi Stainless Turner unused.  But the difference is indeed quite noticeable in presentation, texture, and flavor if you make the effort to do some maneuvering while the pizza is fired up. It took some work over a couple of tries, but once you master turning the pie you’ll be a pizza pro. The Margherita and New York-style pizzas I tried were cooked to perfection, with well-balanced flavors and a slightly charred finish that was a hit among the crowd.

Solo Stove’s oven features a panoramic opening that makes it easy to keep an eye on your pizza and make adjustments as needed during the cooking process. And it’s honestly gratifying to watch your meal transform from dough, cheese, and toppings into savory pies ready to devour.

I suspect this oven might be the best bang for your buck for those who want to entertain a crowd with confidence and style while still getting the best-you’ve-had pizzas on a consistent basis. I do recommend using an infrared thermometer, and if you can, consider getting Solo Stove’s Essential Bundle for $450. It includes the oven and experience-enhancing accessories, like a pizza stone, turner, and a rocker pizza cutter. But if you want to test the waters first, the oven itself is a great place to start.

Ooni Volt 12 Electric Pizza Oven

BUY FOR $699 AT AMAZON

Not everyone has access to the outdoor setup that is required of most pizza ovens, and sometimes the weather simply doesn’t allow for outdoor cooking. For those times, consider the indoor-and-outdoor-capable Ooni Volt 12.

This versatile pizza oven is a stand-out from Ooni’s other well-reviewed outdoor-only ovens because it’s electric. I was a bit intimidated by the $900 price tag, but the price is a reflection of its astute versatility, ease of use, and consistent and considerable gourmet results.

The oven itself is surprisingly compact for all its capabilities and fits right on my countertop without having to move too much around. It comes with a 13-inch, easy-to-clean pizza stone and features adjustable knobs — one for timing, one for temperature, and a “boost” mode for transferring heat between the top and bottom heating elements for cooking multiple pizzas at a time. I really liked the triple-paned, drop-down glass door and internal light that makes it simple to keep an eye on what’s cooking, whether that’s New York, Chicago-style, or other savory pies.

The Ooni Volt 12 debuted a few years ago, but it’s still a stand-out favorite among competing brands. For one, the electric oven reaches 850 degrees Fahrenheit, an astounding temp capability compared to most electric pizza ovens. The Ninja oven mentioned above only reaches 700 degrees Fahrenheit, and those extra degrees are needed if you prefer pizzas that require a higher temp.

I powered the oven up both indoors and outdoors with a 20-minute pre-heat, and each time was a seamless, sensory-filled experience. For my test, I went with a basil and mozzarella-loaded pizza as well as a more adventurous fig with caramelized onion, and was blown away by how thoroughly each pizza was finished in less than two minutes with minimal effort on my end.

The transfer into and out of the oven was a breeze. With three kids hovering around me I was worried about them standing too close to heat, but found that the oven’s shell barely even felt hot during use — a testament to its superior insulation.

While I can equate some of the pillowy, cheesy perfection to my culinary knowledge, I have to credit Ooni for how well the combination of flavors and textures came together. It’s an appliance I’d be confident using for family pizza nights and patio get-togethers on the regular.

Perhaps the most worthwhile appeal of the Ooni Volt 12 is its sincere, borderline ridiculous, ease of use for the top-notch results you achieve. Whereas a lot of outdoor pizza ovens require a ton of babysitting with temperature control, fire, and clean up, the Ooni Volt 12 comes with intuitive controls and capabilities that take the stress out of cooking and let the oven do the heavy lifting.

While I wouldn’t say this is the most beginner-friendly piece on this list, it’s the one that delivers some of the best results with a minimal and manageable learning curve.

Gozney Arc XL Pizza Oven

BUY FOR $900 AT GOZNEY

Sometimes a 12-inch pizza doesn’t cut it, which is why we wanted to include an oven that could handle larger pies with ease. The Arc XL cooks up to a 16-inch pizza that’ll satisfy hungry crowds.

When it comes to gourmet pizza at home, the most performance-driven brand at the moment seems to be Gozney. This chef-loved brand offers a range of ovens from basic to super-advanced. I would describe the best-selling Arc XL as a novice-friendly oven that pizza pros will also love.

The propane-powered oven brings all the best details into one cohesive package, including precise temperature control, a spacious cooking area, and a sleek, dome-shaped presentation that’s a stand-out in any outdoor entertainment space. It weighs nearly 60 pounds and is about 21 inches wide, so it won’t hog much space in your backyard. For this oven, you can customize your whole setup or keep it simple with just the oven itself. I opted to test the oven with the Arc XL Stand, which features incredibly useful side tables, and accessories like the Balance Placement Peel and Balance Turning Peel. If it’s in your budget, I recommend these accessories as they do help move things along much more smoothly and successfully.

Firing up the Gozney Arc XL was a cinch. True to its name, the arced, rolling flame at the top of the chamber is visually stunning, but also a brilliant way to distribute heat evenly throughout the cooking process with the fire at the top and the pizza stone at the bottom. The digital temperature display is probably my favorite feature, so you’re able to match up the temp with the style of pizza you’re making and know exactly when it’s time to slide your pie onto the cooking stone.

A common complaint with higher-temp pizza ovens is often poor heat retention. While an oven might claim to be capable of reaching 900-degree temps, if you pull out an infrared thermometer you might find that it’s actually much lower. What impressed me with the Gozney Arc XL is how well it retained its temperature. It stayed nearly identical to what’s displayed on the oven, give or take a few degrees.

I let the Gozney heat up for about 30 minutes before experimenting with different styles of pizza, including a family-favorite Neapolitan, as well as a Detroit-style pizza I was testing out for the first time. I cooked them at different temperatures — 500 degrees Fahrenheit for the Detroit pizza and around 850 degrees Fahrenheit for the Neapolitan — and the results each time were some of the best I’ve ever had with homemade slices. The Neapolitan pizza was cooked with a slightly charred crust and a flavorful center topped with sweet tomatoes and creamy mozzarella cheese. The Detroit-style pizza was also a delight, with a crispy, golden-brown crust, and melty cheese topped with savory Italian sausage.

The combination of flavors and textures was top-notch, and it’s clear that this pizza oven is capable of producing exceptional results, regardless of pizza style, toppings, or one’s personal pizza prowess. The Gozney Arc XL’s ability to turn the heat up quickly also made it a breeze when cooking multiple different pizzas at a time.

The Gozney Arc XL has a commercial-oven aesthetic in an at-home product, but it’s still pricey. I recommend this oven for someone who wants to make bigger pizzas on the regular and turn it into a centerpiece for outdoor entertainment where you’re guaranteed to show off its delicious output.

The Best Hair Growth Oils, According to a Doctor

During my first pregnancy over 20 years ago, my hair was so luscious and thick it was as if my mane was growing in tandem with my belly. But three months post-partum and it all went awry. I started shedding more than my cat, balding around my hairline above my right brow, and my once-plump ponytail had turned limp and lifeless. Fast forward through two more pregnancies and that stubborn spot is still sparse and my ponytail has yet to regain its former glory. Treatments, potions, and supplements abound to help counteract thinning hair — but the prices and the time it takes to see results can be daunting. I’ve recently discovered the magic of hair growth oils. Many are science-backed, approved by dermatologists, and require little more than dabbing onto then lightly massaging the scalp. Here, some of the best options for a fuller head of hair.

PURA D’OR Organic Rosemary Essential Oil

If you’re trying to regrow hair, start with rosemary oil. “In my experience, the best oil for hair growth — based on clinical research and what I’ve seen in patients — is rosemary oil,” explains Ross Kopelman, DO, hair transplant surgeon at Kopelman Hair Restoration in Boca Raton, Florida. “There’s solid evidence that it can be as effective as minoxidil in stimulating hair regrowth, likely due to its ability to improve blood circulation to the scalp and reduce inflammation around hair follicles.” Though he prefers combining essential oils and FDA-approved treatments like minoxidil for an even more comprehensive approach to hair regrowth, he often recommends rosemary oil as a natural option. For best results, mix a few drops into a carrier oil like coconut, castor, or jojoba oil to help absorption and reduce the risk of irritation.

Nature Spell Rosemary Oil

This TikTok-famous oil is a pre-diluted blend that combines rosemary with almond and sunflower oils to support healthy hair growth, strengthen roots, and add shine. It can also work to fortify hair from the roots, fight dandruff, and help delay the onset of gray hair.

Mielle Organics Rosemary Mint Scalp & Hair Strengthening Oil

What’s better than using one oil known to grow hair back? Combining it with another oil that has the same benefits, making it a solid choice for natural scalp stimulation. Dr. Kopelman says he’s seen great results with patients who have tried this rosemary peppermint oil combo.

Sky Organics Organic Castor Oil

Castor oil has a long list of supposed benefits, and one is the ability to grow thick, strong, and healthy hair (and eyelashes!). Loaded with multiple omega fatty acids, including ricinoleic fatty acid which has anti-inflammatory properties, this 100% pure, cold-pressed, organic oil naturally nourishes and conditions the scalp, roots, and strands. “The evidence for actual hair regrowth is more anecdotal than scientific, but I do think it helps with scalp hydration and overall hair health,” says Dr. Kopleman.

Aura Cacia Sandalwood Essential Oil in Jojoba Oil

One recent study found that scent receptors in the scalp might respond to sandalwood oil in a way that encourages hair growth. The researchers found a 25 to 30 percent increase in the secretion of a growth hormone in the scalp. This sandalwood oil comes mixed with jojoba oil, a carrier oil known to soothe the scalp, repair hair breakage (which makes hair look fuller), and control dandruff. If nothing else, the calming, moisturizing effect of the mix on the scalp creates an ideal environment for hair growth.

Now Foods Peppermint Essential Oil

Peppermint oil is also backed by research. Animal studies suggest it can promote hair growth by increasing blood flow and stimulating the hair follicle, says Dr. Kopelman, who has patients who swear by it. Like rosemary oil, it should be mixed with a carrier oil.

SuperMouth’s Ultim8 Toothbrush Changed How I Brush My Teeth

It’s not easy for a toothbrush to impress me. It’s not that I haven’t used great brushes, but a toothbrush is often just a toothbrush and I’ve tested a lot, ranging in price from a few dollars to several hundred. Besides a few basic differences, there are typically only so many innovative ways to go about creating a tool to brush your teeth. At least, that’s what I thought until I tried SuperMouth’s Ultim8 electric toothbrush. My teeth, and my mind, have changed.

Prices are accurate as of March 7, 2025. Subject to change.

SuperMouth ULTIM8 SmartBrush

BUY FOR $100 AT AMAZON

Despite being obsessed with Timmy the Tooth as a kid, I have a complicated relationship with brushing my teeth. My teeth and gums are sensitive, made worse by my own bad habit of brushing too intensely. And don’t even get me started on toothpaste — I’m one of the unlucky ones who get skin irritation and cracked lips from sodium lauryl sulfate, an ingredient used in many of the major toothpastes (thankfully, Sensodyne has options without it). All this makes brushing my teeth my most annoying personal hygiene task. But alas, it must be done and twice a day no less! I thought I was in for a life of unpleasantry, but the Ultim8 has worked its way into my routine, making the once annoying chore something I almost look forward to.

Because my natural inclination is to scrub, it’s best for me to avoid brushes with firm bristles, lest I end up with more gum recession. However, some soft bristles collapse against my teeth and I feel like I need to press twice as hard as usual to get any real cleaning done. It’s often a lose-lose, Goldilocks situation. This is where the Ultim8 shines. The bristles are very soft, but dense — there are three times as many bristles as a typical brush, SuperMouth says. They don’t scrape and scratch, nor do they give under pressure. They simply clean my teeth and gums without irritating them.

In addition to perfecting the feel, SuperMouth put extra work into the design of the bristles. The brand scanned thousands of teeth (with and without braces), assuring that its bristles match the natural contours of teeth. This allows them to get into and clean crevices like soft, plaque-fighting clouds. According to the company, the patented bristles clean up to 40 times better than a manual brush. I can’t tell you for sure if my teeth are 40 times cleaner, but I certainly enjoy the act of brushing my teeth 40 times more.

I no longer feel the need to scrub, but just in case I do, a pressure sensor light turns red to alert me. The Ultim8 has two cleaning modes, super and sensitive, which is more than enough. Some brushes go overboard with five or six that barely feel different. Quadrant timers alert you every 30 seconds to move on to the next section by quickly pausing the vibration. At the end of two minutes, the brush automatically turns off. Timers are pretty standard among electric toothbrushes but still greatly appreciated. If you’ve never used one, it can be alarming to see how long you think two minutes is versus what it actually is.

At $100, the brush is pricier than some other solid electric toothbrushes, but for my particular tooth dilemma, it’s money well spent. Though I haven’t tried them, SuperMouth also has manual brushes with the same, densely packed bristles. For $10, it might be worth it to try the bristles and decide if the more powerful electric brush is for you.

ULTIM8 SmartBrush System With Sanitizing SmartHub

BUY FOR $170 AT AMAZON

For an additional $70, you can also include the SmartHub. It acts as a home for your brush between cleans, keeping it charged and covered so bristles aren’t exposed to dirt and dust. An integrated dryer keeps it from staying damp while inside and it also uses a UV sanitizer to kill germs. The lid doubles as a cup for rinsing your mouth out. At first glance, I thought it was an overkill accessory, but it ended up feeling like a nice little extra to make a bland task somewhat luxurious.

I’ve been testing the Ultim8 toothbrush for a few weeks and I can safely say I’m never going back to my old manual. My teeth and gums are cleaner and happier.

I grew up in the 80s when there was only one type of bra available for larger-chested young women. If you wore a size DD and above, your only option was the same thick, constricting, multi-clasp minimizers that our grandmothers wore. While my friends had their pick of sexy, lacy, single-hook styles at Victoria’s Secret, I had to buy my matronly contraption at a specialty bra shop. Years later, the market is flooded with bras that come in styles, colors, and sizes that flatter all kinds of breasts. And, as I’ve learned over the years thanks to one breast reduction, three pregnancies, and many ups and downs on the scale — your bra needs to change as your body does. Here, we’ve compiled some of the best bras for different shapes and sizes.

Prices are accurate as of March 12, 2025. Subject to change.

According to Jené Luciani Sena, bestselling author of The Bra Book, minimizer bras are a great choice for those who prefer less projection, as they redistribute breast tissue evenly — and they’ve come a long way since the 80s! In fact, this one contains my larger breasts as well as the bras I wore in my teens, but its lacy construction and colorful options make it more like the ones my friends got to choose from. The multi-panel cups ensure a snug fit and improved shape, while side support panels help center the breasts for a lifted appearance.

Olga Butterfly Effect Minimizer Bra

Olga made the OG minimizers that I wore in the 80s — of course, after I had my breast reduction I trashed them all and loaded up on Victoria’s Secret bras. But it wasn’t long before babies, gravity, weight gain, and weight loss had me searching for something that would give me a lot more lift, support, and containment and I found myself back to the tried-and-true. As it turns out, they updated the design, fit, and fabric (it’s softer, smoother, and less constricting) but the one thing that remains the same is that the construction is sturdy; it supports, lifts, shapes, and minimizes and has become my daily go-to.

Wacoal Red Carpet Strapless Convertible Bra

Especially challenging for large busts? Strapless bras. The lack of straps means the weight of your large breasts will just pull the bra down defeating the purpose. This one is Wacoal’s best-selling strapless bra for a reason! Boning at the sides and the back along with non-slip rubber binding at the edges help keep breasts propped up, light padding helps them appear fuller and higher up even if they are drooping down slightly, and removable adjustable straps turn it into a regular bra for days when you don’t need strapless.

Vanity Fair Ego Boost Push-Up Bra

For smaller busted women, finding the right bra is about comfort, creating shape, and boosting confidence. Bras with full-on padding can leave your breasts looking as fake as the bra. But if you want to add the illusion of volume, push-up bras like this one are your best bet. It has strategically placed, less bulbous padding that comfortably pushes breasts up and out so they magically appear a full cup size bigger.

Knix Mesh Deep V Bra

Perfect for those seeking a more natural look, bralettes offer a relaxed feel with just enough support for a smaller bust while still being stylish — unlike the undershirt-style bralettes your mom bought when you first sprouted. Sena’s choice is a triangle bralette like this one; the vertical seams on the cup help to add structure, the minimalist design complements smaller proportions beautifully, and the soft single-layer mesh feels like wearing nothing under your tops, making it perfect for layering. Knix is also a favorite of some Better Report editors.

For Sagging Breasts

Truekind Daily Comfort Wireless Shaper Bra

According to Sena, most women with sagging breasts think they need a push-up bra to fight that gravitational pull. These types of bras are often made using heavy padding and uncomfortable underwires. “A full-coverage bra is an excellent alternative, as they provide ample support and prevent spillage while helping to shape the breasts,” she explains. Sena pointed me toward this Truekind Daily Comfort Wireless Shaper Bra. I was hesitant to try it since I couldn’t imagine a wire-free bra offering any kind of support, but it actually gave me a much-needed boost — something I’ve never experienced without an underwire. The straps held the weight of my breasts without putting strain on or digging into my shoulders, and the wide band seamlessly smoothed out the sides that tend to bulge.

Soma Balconette Bra

If you’re an underwire stan and want a little bit of a sexier look, a balconette bra works wonders. “They’re like the unsung heroes of the bra world since they offer a gentle lift, creating a perkier look without pushing the breasts too high,” explains Sena. This super sexy balconette bra from Soma is perfectly designed for that purpose. “The combination of stretch lace and mesh with structured cups, underwire, and a longline style has great fit and support.” I love the grippy wide-set straps — they won’t slip or show, they’re perfect under square necklines, and they give your bust a natural boost without any padding. For a more affordable option with similar benefits try the Flirt Demi Lace bra from Montelle.

For Asymmetrical Breasts

Wacoal Uneven Shape Revelation Underwire Bra

Many of us have uneven breasts, and for some, the discrepancy can be more extreme than others. When it comes to evening them out, Sena advises opting for bras with removable cup inserts or adjustable padding to achieve balance and symmetry. This Wacoal bra was specifically designed for that purpose. It has flexible cups that conform to the larger breast, snap-back stretchy fabric that hugs the smaller one without gaping, and straps that adjust in front to help ensure breasts are level. Pro tip: Opt for the size that aligns with the larger breast.

Sunrise Alarms

Do you have to drag yourself out of bed every morning? Maybe you should give your body a little more time to transition into wakefulness. Sunrise alarms mimic the light output of an actual sunrise, targeting your body’s natural rhythm instead of jolting you out of bed with a blaring alarm. Many of them can help you fall asleep, too, with sunset simulators and other bells and whistles.

Hatch Restore 3

If you want a bedside light that does everything, get the Hatch Restore 3. It has a sleep-friendly sunset simulator or any colored light setting you might prefer, and cozy sounds to listen to as you drift off. Plus a sunrise alarm with gentle sounds like forest birds greet you as the day breaks. If you subscribe to Hatch’s monthly membership, it unlocks more features like sleep meditations.

Smart bulbs, including WiZ LED Smart Bulbs, can be controlled with an app where you can create schedules that turn the lights on and off at set times with options that allow the light to fade in and fade out. Create a schedule for your desired wakeup time and you’ll be able to rise and shine as peacefully as you would with a sunrise alarm clock.

Humidifiers

It’s true: If you wake up feeling dry or with a dry mouth, it’s unlikely that you slept well. To counteract this, you can introduce a humidifier, which will regulate the moisture levels in your bedroom, ensuring that you feel refreshed (and hydrated) by the time morning comes around. A humidifier doesn’t just deliver moisture to your skin. It can alleviate respiratory discomfort, reduce nosebleeds, and even act as white noise given most machines give off a subtle hum while they work.

Dreo HM311S Smart Ultrasonic Humidifier

The Dreo HM311S Smart Ultrasonic Humidifier is one of our favorite humidifiers, thanks to its smart features and budget-friendly price. It creates a soothing, comfortable environment with a cool mist that can run for up to 32 hours and is easy to clean. Use the app to adjust mist settings, set timers, and create schedules — which is perfect for running while you’re asleep and setting a timer or schedule to turn off when you wake up (even better if you time it with your sunrise alarm).

Blackout Curtains

If you live in a city, light pollution could be affecting you more than you realize. It might be time to upgrade your window shades. Blackout curtains are exactly what they sound like: curtains designed to block out most exterior light. They’re also useful for people who have to go to sleep when it’s still light out.

These curtains are a luxurious bedroom upgrade that look good and help keep unwanted light out of your bedroom. On top of adding texture with a touch of sophistication to your bedroom decor, they also help reduce noise.

Weighted Blankets

Do you feel restless when you try to sleep? Weighted blankets can help soothe your nervous system as if you’re being swaddled or held. The general guideline is to get a blanket that weighs about 10% of your body weight — for example, if you’re 150 pounds, get somewhere around a 15-pound blanket — but based on your preference, you can go lighter or heavier.

YnM Weighted Blanket

The YnM Weighted Blanket is one of the more affordable options you can buy. It’s available in a variety of colors, sizes, and weights ranging between 5 and 40 pounds. With glass bead filling and a seven-layer design, it’s made to comfortably contour to your body while evenly distributing its weight for a soothing effect that will have you falling asleep in no time.

Air Purifiers

An air purifier might not be the first thing that comes to mind when you think of the best sleep products, but having good indoor air quality impacts all areas of your life. Windmill Air Purifier

Windmill’s air conditioner is a fan favorite, and its new air purifier is equally enviable. It’s pricey, but covers a whopping 1,950 square feet. On its lowest mode, it’s whisper quiet at 16 decibels — but know that boost mode can be quite noisy; make sure to turn on the sleep setting before bed. A helpful app allows you to control the settings, check air quality, and see when you need to replace the filter. Better Report’s editor Medea Giordano has been testing it in her office. She says it keeps cat litter odors and her cat-induced allergies at bay. During a cooking fiasco that resulted in burnt bacon, the app alerted her of the poor air quality, and suggested turning the purifier to high or boost mode. The Windmill looks like a design piece, especially in bamboo.

Sound Machines

While a weighted blanket soothes your body, white noise lulls your brain. Think of it like an audio blanket, if you will. When faced with steady background noise, your brain is less disrupted by sudden noises in the foreground, like footsteps from above, doors opening and closing, or even the mid-morning activity of your energized cat or dog. Even more so than external interference, white noise helps drown out your inner monologue, pushing stress, anxiety, and other worries to the side while you doze off.

This Retinol Brightened My Skin in Less Than Six Weeks

Ali Eldridge
Health | Updated: March 10, 2025
Better Report

All featured products and deals are selected independently and objectively by the author. Better Report may receive a share of sales via affiliate links in content.

As a woman in my late 20s, taking care of my skin is a priority. Even though I don’t have a dedicated skincare routine, there are a few products in my arsenal that I honestly can’t live without. One of those is the Kate Somerville Vitamin C Retinol Moisturizer, which, within just six weeks, improved the texture of my skin and visibly reduced the fine lines peeking through on my forehead.

Prices are accurate as of March 10, 2025. Subject to change.

What is Retinol?

Retinol is a form of vitamin A with anti-aging effects, such as reducing fine lines and wrinkles. It can also help unclog pores and boost collagen production in your skin for a plumper look. Retinol is also a great product for those looking to reduce hyperpigmentation or acne scars. You may have heard of the popular ingredient tretinoin, which is a prescription-strength vitamin A. It will get you results quicker than over-the-counter retinol, but can be much more drying.

This cream has vitamin C in it as well, which also combats wrinkles by producing collagen and helps to brighten skin.

How Soon Will You Notice a Change in Your Skin?

The Cleveland Clinic says retinol is almost immediately absorbed into your skin, but it will take a few weeks to show any effect. Kate Somerville’s cream wasn’t my first attempt at using retinol, but it’s the only time a product seemed to work for my skin. I used it for six weeks continuously, wearing it at night before bed after I took my makeup off. I first started to see noticeable changes in my fourth week of use.

Retinol Side Effects

With retinol, your skin will usually look worse before it looks better. I like to think I have pretty sturdy skin. I don’t break out, and apart from a few pesky blackheads, I don’t have too many skin issues. That said, I do have combination skin (with an extremely oily T-zone), which sometimes leads to dryness and skin peeling on cold winter days. This was definitely accentuated during the first two to three weeks of retinol use. My skin turned pretty red (bonus: I looked rosy-cheeked all day long), and the skin around my nose and forehead started to peel pretty consistently.

While peeling skin and redness are normal while you get used to retinol, it is still annoying, especially if you wear makeup daily. I used tons of moisturizers and facial sprays throughout the day to combat the dryness to no avail. I would calm the look of the dry skin, and within five minutes, more would appear. The worst part was that it burned too, especially when I applied more retinol at night.

The mistake I made was that I immediately started using retinol daily. To get your skin used to it, it’s best to start slow. Use it once every two to three days to start, gradually moving to daily use. This will greatly reduce the side effects and keep the itching, burning, and redness to a minimum. Retinol makes you more sensitive to the sun, so I also recommend using a day moisturizer with sunscreen to keep your skin protected.

Are the Tiny Red Dots on Your Skin Dangerous?

Once you pass the adjustment stage, that’s where the real magic happens. I noticed a daily glow and a clearer complexion in my sixth week of use. The dryness had finally abated, and now my skin just looked pink, plump, and, in general, full of color. My forehead creases were much less noticeable, and I noticed fewer blackheads and clogged pores on my nose. Of course, it’s not like my fine lines and enlarged pores disappeared completely, but I noticed how much clearer and healthier my skin looked after continuously using Kate Somerville’s retinol cream.

I’ve continued to use the cream since, even investing in a second bottle (my first lasted me about two months), and have noticed that my skin continues to remain free of breakouts, and luckily, it seems my wrinkle development has considerably slowed down.

While you don’t have to use the product for an extended period of time, bear in mind that if you do go off retinol, it will take about a week for your skin to go back to normal. Again, I’d also recommend stepping away from using retinol once summer arrives, as it can make you more prone to sunburn and sun damage.

Retinol works differently depending on your skin type. Remember to patch-test your new retinol cream to start, making sure it’s the right fit before you commit.

Verdict

Before and After Using Kate Somerville +Retinol. Credit: Image courtesy of Nishka Dhawan

All in all, there’s a lot to love about Kate Somerville’s Vitamin C Retinol Cream. The pump dispenser makes it easy for me to grab the right amount of cream every time without wasting or overusing. In addition to smoothing fine lines and fading dark spots, I was looking for a product to add some vitality to my skin, ideally hoping to make it look less worn out and tired. I found it with this cream. It has a subtle citrus scent, and a small amount goes a long way, making this a product well worth your buck. And, it really does deliver results.
