Costco may be best known for bulk-sized products, its $1.50 hot-dog-and-soda combo, and Kirkland-brand everything, but the warehouse club can also be an unexpectedly great place to shop for gifts. From fine jewelry and designer fragrances to electronics and kitchen gadgets, its shelves and website are filled with items that can make thoughtful presents — often for less than you’d expect to pay elsewhere.

To determine which Costco finds are actually worth giving, we spoke with two Costco shopping experts about the gifts they recommend and the deals shoppers should keep an eye out for this holiday season. Whether you’re shopping for someone who has everything, a hard-to-buy-for family member, or a friend who loves a good bargain, these surprisingly great Costco finds are worth a look.

Bling for All

Costco may not be the first place you think of when you’re shopping for baubles, but Diane Licht, the influencer behind Costco Experts, says jewelry is one of the warehouse club’s most underrated categories. One item she says she’s “loving right now” is a pair of 14-carat Yellow Gold Huggie Hoop Earrings for $379.99. “They’re timeless and such an easy gift.” They’re also the kind of gift that doesn’t depend on knowing someone’s exact size or personal style, and the classic design makes them easy to wear year-round.

For an especially important gift, it’s also worth browsing Costco’s broader selection of fine jewelry, which includes a huge selection of diamond engagement rings in every tone and shape, from a simple diamond band for $849.99 to a one-of-a-kind 5-carat yellow diamond stunner for $69,999.99.

Scents for Less

“Another Costco category people sleep on,” Licht says, is fragrances. “You’ll see more fragrance in the warehouse around the holidays, but Costco.com carries it year-round.” And with high-end brand names like Burberry, Valentino, and Gucci — for both men and women — there’s sure to be a scent for everyone on your list. Licht’s favorite bargain is a bottle of Hermès Un Jardin sur le Nil, which Costco currently sells for $107.99, compared to $170 at Sephora, for a savings of more than $60. “I actually own this fragrance and get compliments almost every time I wear it,” Licht says. “They also have Valentino Donna Born in Roma for $129.99 versus $180 at Sephora and Ulta. And the gorgeous, studded bottle makes it such a great gift. You barely even need to wrap it!”

Fancy Fish Eggs

If you really want to surprise someone with a Costco gift, skip the giant snack basket and head straight for the caviar. Yes, you read that correctly: Costco carries an unexpectedly impressive selection of caviar, including Osetra and white sturgeon, as well as gift sets. The 2-ounce Plaza Osetra Farmed Bulgarian Sturgeon Caviar gift set, for example, currently sells for $119.99 and includes caviar, blini, crème fraîche, and a pearl spoon — essentially everything you need to turn a Costco purchase into a seriously luxe gift.

For an even bigger splurge, Costco sells caviar in larger tins, including an 8.8-ounce Plaza Golden Osetra Caviar for $569.99. There are also caviar tasting sets designed specifically for gifting. Just keep in mind that caviar is a refrigerated, perishable gift, so it’s better suited to someone you know will appreciate it — and someone who can get it into the refrigerator quickly.

Gift in Bulk

Not every Costco gift needs to cost hundreds of dollars. Angela Ackerman, whose popular CostcoGuide is followed by 1 million shoppers, recommends multipacks like Costco’s seasonal holiday soaps as an inexpensive option that can be divided into individual gifts. Instead of giving an entire multipack to one person, you can separate the soaps and use them as small presents for neighbors, co-workers, hosts, or anyone else on your holiday list who doesn’t necessarily need a big gift. Their winter-themed Home + Body Holiday Passport Hand Soap can get you eight gifts at once for just $39.99 (just under $5 per person). Costco also sells candle sets that you can split into multiple gifts, like these Bellevue Luxury Glass Candles (four for $25.99) or this festive Yankee Candle Tumbler Candle Set (six for $20.99).

It’s a good example of a broader Costco strategy: Think of the package as the starting point, rather than assuming everything in it has to go to the same person. The same approach can work with certain food, beauty, and household gift sets, particularly when you’re looking for several small gifts rather than one big present.

The Sound of Music

For the kid you want to spoil (or parents you want to annoy), Costco carries musical instruments — there’s a Roland CG-2 Digital Grand Piano for just under $6,000, as well as a Casio Portable Keyboard Bundle for a (comparatively) more affordable $199.99. Budding rock stars will love the Roland TD-02K-SC Electronic Drum Kit ($449.99). For a gift that’s considerably less predictable, Ackerman recommends a Singing Machine Karaoke WIFI Vocal Hero ($199.99) as a fun family gift. And if you want your loved ones to party like it’s 1989, nab the Aiwa Backtrack Retro Boombox ($179.99) with Bluetooth.

Unlimited Gameplay

Another great way to bring a family together around the holidays is with a game that everyone can play, and Costco has options in a range of price points, from oversized versions of Tetris, Guess Who?, and Yahtzee (each $49.99) to jigsaw puzzles ($7.99 or $69.99, depending on whether you get a puzzle board or a wooden one) to a 10-person poker table ($399.99). If your budget allows it, there’s also a wide selection of arcade-style games like Sonic the Hedgehog ($639.99), Roll & Score ($1,119.99), and Star Wars pinball ($4,999.99).

A Ride or the Trip of a Lifetime

Some of the best gifts are the experiential kind, and Costco can help you there, too. In addition to regularly featuring discounted gift cards on things like Ubers ($100 worth of travel for just $79.99), there’s Costco Travel. Here, you’ll find everything from discounted packages on Disney theme parks and cruises to five-star South African safaris.

For the Person Who Has Everything

If you’re shopping for someone who already seems to own everything, there’s always the most obvious Costco gift: a Costco membership.

For someone who isn’t already a member, it can be a particularly practical present — especially if they live near a warehouse and regularly spend money on groceries, household supplies, or gas. Unlike a sweater that may not fit or a piece of art that doesn’t suit the recipient’s taste, a membership gives the recipient the ability to choose exactly what they want.

If the recipient already has a membership, there’s always a one-size-fits-all gift card, where Costco regularly delivers on value. Just $39.99 can net your giftee $50 worth of movie tickets, pizza, and beyond, while $79.99 can purchase $100 worth of goodies at Dave & Buster’s, DoorDash, SpaFinder, and other brands.

If you have a sports fan on your list, Costco has also partnered with FEVO to sell tickets to all sorts of college and professional sporting and other events.

One Last Tip…

If there’s one lesson both Costco shoppers and gift-givers should keep in mind, it’s that Costco isn’t necessarily a store where you can count on an item to be there tomorrow just because it’s there today. So if you know you want it, it’s best to buy it right then and there.

Ackerman recommends shopping early to avoid the holiday rush, when Costco gets especially busy with shoppers preparing for parties and other end-of-year events. She also warns shoppers not to hesitate when they find a seasonal item they really want. “If they spot something seasonal they want to purchase, they should seize the opportunity while it’s still available, as once it’s gone, it’s gone,” she says.

Licht offers similar advice and recommends “check[ing] both your warehouse and Costco.com, because the selection can be completely different. And if you see something you love, grab it. Costco’s inventory changes so quickly!”

That’s part of the fun of Costco — but it can also make waiting until the last minute a risky strategy.
