Vacation Royal Pine Deluxe Candle

Imagine a candle that smells like a luxury winter vacation, pine trees and all. Hard to envision? Well, Vacation, a sunscreen, fragrance, and candle brand known for its playful, vintage-style advertisements, has captured the very essence and spirit of the holidays and infused it into wick and wax. Produced from a brilliant three-pine blend, including fresh-cut balsam, Siberian pine needle accord, and imported Norwegian spruce, your recipient’s senses will have them believing they’re surrounded by snow-covered pines and the invigorating scent of Christmas trees. Aside from being a standout scent in a sea of overly saccharine, headache-inducing candles, it’s beautifully decorated with a pristine presentation that exudes from the font to the gold-rimmed green glass.

In a growing digital age, it’s easy to overlook the joy of thumbing through a physical cookbook, filled with page after page of decadent recipes and gorgeous photography. The company’s latest culinary release, Crumbs: Cookies and Sweets from Around the World, is a literary indulgence that’s as delightful to read as it is to recreate in your own kitchen. In this expansive, beautiful title, your gift recipient will discover 300 recipes from across the globe like chocolate-glazed Polish gingerbread, hundreds and thousands biscuits from New Zealand (yes, that’s the official name), railroad man cookies from Austria, and much more. If you need a last-minute gift or are just stuck on what to get that one particular person, but are looking for something a bit more thoughtful than a gift card, consider these great ideas.

For the Dog Lover: BarkBox

As someone who considers herself the ultimate dog lover, BarkBox is easily my favorite subscription box. Each month has a different theme that is usually seasonal or holiday-based, and I’m consistently surprised by how creative and cute the toys end up being. The treats or food supplements always brighten up my dogs’ day, and they’ve come in handy more than once arriving just as their box of normal treats has run out. The cat lovers at Better Report recommend Meowbox, which follows the same idea of monthly themes for toys, treats, and accessories.

Govee Smart Light Bulbs

Govee makes great smart home tech, particularly smart lighting. This is a solid intro kit for anyone just dipping their toes into the world of smart home or as an addition to an existing setup. Using the Govee app — or a Google Home or Alexa device — your giftee can control their light’s brightness, color, or temperature and set timers and routines with their phone or voice. They can also sync them with their music to change the color and brightness based on sounds, a fun trick for parties.

Amazon Echo Dot

Maybe your giftee could use a helping hand or wants to try out a smart assistant without a camera-enabled smart display lurking in the kitchen. The Amazon Echo Dot is an affordable, small, and easy-to-use option that plays music, audiobooks, and podcasts and answers all of their burning questions. Perhaps the best thing about this product is its ability to control other smart home devices. If your loved one has a smart fan, bulbs, or thermostat, they’re likely compatible with the Echo Dot.

Amazon Echo Dot Kids

Designed for kids ages 3 through 12, this smart device works similarly to the Amazon Echo Dot, with a few child-safe differences. There are parental controls, filters for explicit music, and kid-friendly Alexa responses, so parents don’t have to worry about the content it delivers. This version of the Echo Dot also comes with one year of Amazon Kids+ for free, which includes audiobooks, interactive games, morning routines, and silly voice changes. Little ones who receive this gift can make Alexa sound like a dragon, owl, or their favorite Disney characters.

Smart home fans tend to be Amazon or Google people. Google’s devices are as easy to set up and use as Alexas are and the Nest Mini is typically under $50. Cleaning is a divisive gift category, and one that should involve some thought. Many of us want better tools to clean efficiently and would love to wake up Christmas morning to a brand new, otherwise unattainable Dyson vacuum or a thoughtfully curated gift basket of supplies. Better Report’s holiday gift guides cover home chefs, coffee drinkers, and home design fans, among others, but we strongly believe that no pet nor pet lover should wake up Christmas morning without a few boxes to unwrap. Here, you’ll find options for your animal-loving friend, their pets, or your own fur babies.

Prices are accurate as of November 12, 2024. Subject to change.

BarkBox or Meowbox Subscription

There are subscription boxes available for everything a human needs, and our pets deserve some of that excitement too. Whether you have a dog or a cat (or both!), these cutely-themed boxes deliver treats, toys, and other surprise goodies monthly. Both brands offer gift subscriptions if you’re giving them to a friend’s four-legged children.

Casper Dog Bed

Casper makes some of the best human mattresses around, so it’s no surprise that it also crafts revered dog beds. Available in three sizes, it’s firm and supportive enough that even older dogs can feel the relief as they relax their furry little bodies into it. We know, your pooch probably spends a lot of time with you on the couch or in your bed, but they also deserve their own spot for those nice moments of solitude.

Furbo 360 Pet Camera

You might think this is more a gift for you than your pet but I think it covers both. You can check in on them when you’re away and they get treats flung across the room whenever you’re missing them. This camera does come with a caveat, though: You’ll pay more upfront if you want to forgo a monthly subscription, which is frustrating. (My all-time favorite pet camera from Eufy doesn’t require a subscription for recording history, but it’s not available at the time of this writing.) There are dog and cat-specific camera models, as the latter is equipped with a feather toy. I didn’t find my cats were any more attracted to it than other pet cameras I tested, but it is a great option.

Potaroma Flapping Bird Toy

You can’t always be at the other end of a toy but you also don’t want Whiskers to get bored. That’s where a good interactive toy comes in, and you may have seen this toy flapping all over social media.

Chuckit! Dog Ball Launcher

When your pup needs to burn off some energy, the Chuckit lets you throw balls farther and faster than your arm alone may allow. You can even use it to pick up the ball again without getting your hands all slobbery.

Catenary Flora Wand

If you have cats, you know the importance of keeping a good wand toy around. I’ve tried loads at this point and while my cats have mostly been fans across the board, none are quite as pretty as Catenary’s Flora Wand. The flower is made from wool and the strings suede. At first, I thought my cats might pass, given there was no bell or feather to entice them, but they went absolutely bonkers for the strings. I’ve tried a few other favorites from Catenary, like the elevated food dishes and scratchers, all of which marry cat-friendly products with beautiful design.

Chom Chom Roller Reusable Lint Roller

Every pet owner needs a Chom Chom Roller. Living with pets means living with fur, and using tape or disposable lint roller sheets to clean it off your furniture is wasteful for the environment, your time, and your wallet. Instead, your animal-loving giftee needs just one product to remove fur, dust, and litter remnants from upholstery, carpets, and even clothes. It traps everything inside — just open it up over a garbage to empty the receptacle.

Birding Books

I am a cat person first, but I am also a bird fanatic. If anyone on your gift list has similar interests, these guidebooks will be a delight. Any title from Kenn Kaufman and David Allen Sibley are informative for the home or pro birder, and Matt Kracht’s Field Guide to Dumb Birds of North America is guaranteed to make them laugh — don’t worry, the name-calling is all in good fun.

Chewy eGift Card

Some people don’t like giving gift cards as it can feel impersonal, but a lot of us love to be given one. With the amount of money your pet-loving friends probably spend on their fur babies, a gift card to the pet store mecca will feel like a million bucks (even if it’s only for $50). It’s digital, so you won’t get a physical card, but you can print or email them the information — this is especially great for long-distance friends who can’t spend the holidays together.

Grounds & Hounds Coffee Co. Gift Subscription

For the person on your gift list who loves dogs and coffee, consider a subscription to Grounds & Hounds. This coffee brand donates 20% of its profits to helping dogs in need, including covering vaccines, spay/neuter surgeries, microchips, meals, and toys. With a gift subscription, you can choose from at least two bags of beans a month for three, six, or 12 months. As you start the process, it tells you how many meals your purchase will provide — two bags for three months covers 1,500 meals.

Communication Buttons

You may have seen talking pets all over the internet, from the dogs Bunny and Stella to Russell the cat. Now you can gift your loved one the chance to better communicate with their animal. Fluent Pet is more popular (used by Bunny and Russell) and has multiple kits and expansion packs available, but it’s also pricier. Hunger for Words (created by Stella’s mom, a speech-language pathologist) is a more affordable option that you may want to pair with the book, How Stella Learned to Talk.

Smart Bird Feeders

If you can splurge a bit on your bird-loving giftee, consider a smart bird feeder. They connect to an app and monitor and identify the bird species that visit. I’ve tested several and found Birdfy and Bird Buddy to be the two best options. This Birdfy bundle comes with a solar panel to keep the battery charged and a lifetime subscription to its AI service, so your giftee never has to pay a monthly subscription, but there are more affordable options available from the brand. This Bird Buddy has a solar panel roof, which I like over a panel that needs to be mounted somewhere. Bird Buddy’s free app is good enough for most people, but the option to pay for additional services is there if they so desire.

The world is truly your oyster in a category as expansive and exciting as home decor, so get ready to finalize all your holiday shopping with pieces like board games, festive candles, coffee table books, and luxe throws that add a dash of style, personality, and warmth to anyone’s cherished space. Shop our favorite home decor-inspired buys below and don’t be afraid to snag pieces for yourself, too!

BrownLove Ceramic Face Vase

A statement vase brings whimsy and the wild right into the home. We’ve seen our fair share of adorable and adventurous vases, including makeshift book covers like Pride & Prejudice and even hot pink cowboy boots, there’s something universally fun and fanciful about this face vase. The petite vessel features a figure in a contemplative, curious mood, and at the top opening is where floral imagination takes the reins. It can house daisies, roses, lilies, carnations, or a myriad of your recipient’s favorite buds and blossoms, creating a colorful crown that adds a pop of personality to any room’s decor. No matter where it’s situated, this conversation starter is sure to bring breathtaking botanicals into any room it inhabits.

There is rarely a gift more thoughtful or moving than a framed picture. Consider the photographs that would delight your recipient and surprise them with a beautifully framed and personalized piece that captures a cherished memory or moment in time. It can be hard to choose the right frame to surround your thoughtful photo, but one brand that always hits it out of the park is Rifle Paper Co. The design-focused brand features some of the most stunning prints we’ve ever seen, perfectly blending artistry, imagination, and wonder into decor essentials like rugs, furniture, and candles. Your recipient will fall in love with this frame, available in two stunning, easy-to-style prints: hydrangea and peacock. And, confession time, we’ve already bought several to check off our holiday shopping list!

Nest Candle

Nest candles bring as much delightful design as they do sensory indulgence, with deep, lavish scents that enliven and surprise with every luminary minute. A longtime favorite of the interior design-focused, a Nest candle is not only a luxurious accent to any space, but a testament to the power of scent to transport, sending you to lands far away in a sensory escape. And while there are any number of fragrances to choose from in the flawless lineup, including autumn plum, Himalayan salt, and rosewater, our favorite has to be the holiday-centric birchwood pine. This classic winter, woodsy scent, brought to life with elements of white pine, fir balsam, birchwood, musk, and amber, will burn bright in your recipient’s home long beyond the holidays, with over 50 delicious hours.

Frontier: Cowboys of the Americas

Just when you think you have more than enough coffee table books, another one comes out that changes your tune. In 2021, photographer and author Anouk Masson Krantz came out with the riveting, award-winning title American Cowboys, which gave a cinematic look into cowboy culture and the men and women who keep this historic tradition alive, through rodeos, ranchwork, and other equine-centric endeavors. Recently, the author debuted her newest and most geographically expansive book, Frontier: Cowboys of the Americas. The book is a giftable work that showcases the rugged beauty and brutality of the cowboy lifestyle across the Americas, focusing on the North American cowboy, as well as the vaqueros and gauchos of Central and South America. The moving, monumental photographs capture every facet of this life, highlighting the strength and sacrifice it takes to be a working cowboy in today’s world.

Quince Ruched Faux Fur Throw

Throws are one of the most underappreciated elements of home decor, providing comfort, texture, and color without seeking to be the center of attention. And yet, no home is complete without one (or more) of these sidekicks, especially in a room where comfort, peace, and relaxation are the goal. While you could invest in a giftable pricey plush throw from brands like Pottery Barn, you can save yourself a pretty penny shopping at Quince for an equally luxe faux fur throw that doesn’t skimp on sustainability or materials. The machine-washable, affordable-luxury throw looks like it cost a fortune, with its sumptuous softness, subtle sheen, and wavey texture that rivals its competitors. Your intended will find any number of uses for the cozy companion — adding texture to a bedroom or living room or snuggling up for Netflix binges — it’s a gift that won’t disappoint.

Katie Kime Lucite Tray

A tray is a criminally underappreciated piece of home decor. Often relegated to collecting dust atop coffee tables and entryway furniture, a tray deserves more praise for its versatility and ability to elevate the every day, from collecting necessities like keys and mail to adding a personal touch to coffee tables with candles and collectibles all while keeping a space organized and stylish. When it comes to gifting a tray, it can’t hurt to consider your recipient, especially if they appreciate pops of color and seasonal sensibility, aka holiday decor. This holiday-inspired toile tray from Katie Kime is sure to please even the Grinch on your list, with its nostalgic winter wonderland print that your recipient won’t be rushed to pack away at the end of the season. The brand, known for its city-specific designs highlighting towns like Dallas and Nashville, features a host of other sizes and designs.

In these majestic rugs, you’ll find beauty and imagination, where vibrant colors, playful patterns, and the uninhibited charm of Apfel’s legacy come alive. KitchenAid 2024 Design Series Evergreen Tilt-Head Stand Mixer

This gift is for those looking to splurge. A KitchenAid mixer has long been a dual-purpose appliance: part decor piece, part culinary essential. This multi-purpose tool handles it all with ease and efficiency, whether you’re whipping up homemade pizza dough, baking decadent chocolate chip cookies, or even preparing fresh pasta. And while we’ve long loved the diverse KitchenAid color palette, from dark crimsons to lilacs and mint greens, nothing prepared us for the sleek and sophisticated Design Series evergreen mixer. This dreamy deep forest green mixer, which looks like it belongs in a log cabin, features a five-quart walnut bowl and three stainless steel attachments that whip up culinary magic. Though the Design Series KitchenAid has been around for a while, we’re not sure we’ve ever seen a standout statement piece like this that brings decadence and design right into the home kitchen.

Artwork gently fades away on its own accord, leaving a blank slate and a clear, focused mind. They needn’t be the next Van Gogh, it’s enough to simply show up and express themselves.

There’s nothing quite as comforting as a warm, well-made cup of coffee or tea. No matter which you prefer, or how you prepare it, you know the feeling that comes with that first sip. Those who love a cozy caffeinated beverage know that occasionally home-brewed batches fall short. After all, few of us are trained baristas. So, why not get yourself — or another special someone in your life — a tool, treat, or trendy trinket to enhance the at-home experience? From a self-heating mug to the ideal stovetop kettle, these are the best gifts for every level of coffee and tea lover.

Prices are accurate as of November 4, 2024. Subject to change.

Ember Mug 2

Those who prefer their beverages hot know the disappointment that settles in when the contents of your mug become lukewarm — or worse, cold. Sure, reheating your coffee or tea in the microwave is an option, but there are products out there that don’t even let your drink get cold in the first place. The Ember Mug, for example, can keep your coffee or tea at your desired temperature (from 120°F to 145°F) for up to 80 minutes off its charging pad or all day on it, meaning you — or your lucky giftee — can nurse a single cup for as long as your heart desires.

Nespresso Aeroccino3 Milk Frother

If it’s the foamy milk that keeps drawing you back to your favorite coffee shop, you’ll be surprised to learn making it at home is surprisingly simple. You can do it by hand with a steam wand, but this standalone countertop device by Nespresso, the Nespresso Aerocino3 Milk Frother, does the work for you, whipping up batches of warm milk or warm (or cold) foam in under a minute. To mix your final product with your preferred coffee, simply lift the cup up off its stand and pour.

Nespresso Vertuo Coffee and Espresso Machine

Has your giftee grown tired of traditional drip coffee? Instead of offering an expert-level machine with a steep learning curve, gift them this easy-to-use espresso machine by Nespresso, which pairs well with the Aerocino3. Capable of brewing four different cup sizes — single espresso, double espresso, 5-ounce coffee, and 8-ounce coffee — you’ll find that there’s a setting for every palate (and energy level). Simply fill the rear chamber with water, insert one of Nespresso’s premium pods, and press brew. The machine automatically adapts its brewing process to each capsule, accounting for coffee size, best temperature, proper pressure, and total brewing time.

Cometeer Instant Coffee Advent Calendar

Instant coffee has long gotten a bad rap. But long gone are the powders that clump and clot, turning your well-meaning coffee into a pool of light brown water and undissolved grounds. Cometeer set out to make instant coffee a luxury good, creating concentrated frozen coffee capsules that dissolve directly into hot water, resulting in a cup of instant coffee that’s nearly indistinguishable from those that took minutes, if not longer, to make. Their annual specialty coffee advent calendar features a sampling of delicious and innovative coffees of the season, curated by their coffee experts.

Le Creuset is an iconic name in the stoneware industry. Since 1925, they’ve been the name in colorful cookware, amassing quite the cult following because of it. Certain products in rarer colors are downright impossible to find, but the baseline products — i.e. this beautiful mug — are available year-round. That said, they make an excellent gift, especially for a tea-lover with an existing Le Creuset collection.

Caraway Whistling Tea Kettle

When electric kettles took over kitchens, no one realized what we’d lose: the iconic whistle of the stovetop kettle. So, why not bring that timeless — definitely not annoying — sound back? Caraway’s stylish iteration is lined with stainless steel, has a heatproof handle, and comes ceramic-coated, which means it boils faster and holds heat better than a traditional kettle.

Brightland Orange Blossom Honey

Most people like a bit of lemon and a little sweetness in their tea. Why not get the best of both in one product? Brightland’s Orange Blossom Honey is the sweetest gift, whether used in black tea or dosed over yogurt. To make this Orange Blossom Honey, a colony of bees in California collected nectar from single-estate orange groves, resulting in a honey that’s sweet, citrusy, and extremely easy on the eyes.
