Finding the perfect gift doesn’t have to drain your wallet. Whether you’re shopping for friends, a distant family member, a coworker, or that one person who already has everything, a thoughtful present under $50 — or even $25 — can still feel big. The key? Choosing items that feel personal, particularly useful, or plain fun — all without screaming “budget buy.” From clever gadgets and self-care tools to kitchen upgrades and other crowd-pleasing stocking stuffers, we’ve rounded up the best affordable gifts at both ends. (Click here to see our picks.)

These picks are proof that affordable isn’t a drawback — each one brings something special to the table, whether it’s a tiny luxury or a surprising upgrade. This list has something for everyone on your list — whether funds are tight this year or you just love a good deal. These gifts prove you don’t have to spend a lot to give a lot, and that it’s okay to opt for something besides generic gift cards and last-minute panic purchases — neither one screams “I put a lot of thought into this.”

Mixbook Sweet Memories Softcover Photo Book

Looking for a thoughtful way to relive your favorite moments? The Mixbook Sweet Memories Softcover Photo Book helps you turn your camera roll photos into something beautiful and lasting. With Mixbook’s easy-to-use tools and fully customizable designs, you can create a keepsake that captures family milestones, vacations, or everyday joys in your own unique way.

Le Creuset Vancouver Mug

Even a $25 gift can last forever — so long as you don’t drop it, but my set of six has seen its fair share of bumps and bruises and have lived to see another pot of coffee. Whether you’re getting them one in their favorite hue, contributing to a collection, or kickstarting one, you can’t go wrong with Le Creuset’s classic Vancouver stoneware mug.

Owala FreeSip Water Bottle

You’ve probably seen this bottle everywhere, because aside from the behemoth Stanley Tumbler, it’s probably the most popular one. Available in countless color combos, the real benefit of the Owala over the Stanley is its two-in-one lid, which locks, but lets you quickly sip from a straw or tilt back the bottle to drink, well, like you’re chugging from a bottle. It’s a cute, largely spill-proof gift to get a friend or your perpetually dehydrated family member.

Quince Mongolian Cashmere Sweater

If you’re unsure what to buy, it’s great to lean into luxury. Luxury, of course, conjures up the idea of expensive and extravagant, but there are those quiet luxury brands that tote craftsmanship, quality, and style over wallet-compromising price tags. With Quince, you can get the best of both worlds with affordable luxury goods, from leather accessories, silk statement pieces, and, our personal favorite, cashmere clothing. With sustainable, ethically sourced cashmere that won’t rough out or start piling away, this light but incredibly warm sweater remains a statement-maker in our winter wear collection.

How to Set Up Your Own Holiday Gift Wrapping Station

With the holiday season comes presents, and with presents comes wrapping paper, bows, tape, and scissors, all competing for space on your dining room table. While you’re getting out your holiday plates and Yuletide decorations, there’s one more area you may want to set up this season: a dedicated gift-wrapping station.

I used to keep all of my wrapping supplies tucked in a closet, bringing them out every few days during the holidays for marathon wrapping sessions. A few years ago, I began setting up a seasonal wrapping station in my basement from late October through the end of December. It was much more convenient to have all the supplies at hand whenever we needed them during the holidays. Whether you have space to dedicate to a permanent wrap station or set up a temporary spot like I do each winter, here are some must-have items for your wrap station.

Prices are accurate as of December 22, 2025. Subject to change.

Aneco 150-Pack Kraft Paper Cutout Gift Tags

Along with items to keep your wrap station organized, you’ll want to keep it well-stocked! Understated and elegant, these gift tags feature cutouts of reindeer, snowflakes, and Christmas trees. The tags are blank, allowing you plenty of room to write a short message to your recipient. Unlike shiny, sticker-style gift tags, kraft paper is slightly absorbent, making it a good surface for writing with gel pens or fine-tipped markers if you like to get fancy.

Best Choice Products Folding Table

If, like me, you don’t have space for a dedicated wrapping area all year long, you’ll want a portable table. I set mine up in the fall and leave my wrap station stocked until the week after Christmas. Don’t overthink the table you choose. This basic folding table is long enough to hold supplies, plus most presents while you wrap. It’s sturdy, wipes clean easily, and folds in half with a handy carrying handle. You’ll likely end up using it throughout the year too when you need an extra surface.

𝗬𝘂𝗺𝗸𝗳𝗼𝗶 Wrapping Paper Storage Cart

This little cart packs a wide variety of supplies in a small space, letting you keep everything close at hand year-round. Wrapping paper slots on the back hold up to 16 rolls, spool and tool hooks keep scissors, gift bags, and ribbons organized, and drawers and shelves provide space for other supplies. The cart is on wheels, so it’s easy to move as well.

Blisstime 120-Sheet Tissue Paper Pack

Now that you have your gift bags, you need tissue paper to go in them and you’ll be well-stocked with this 120-sheet package. The papers come in solid white, red, and green, plus red-striped and holiday tree patterns. They’re convenient for filling out gift bags, or for using as wrapping paper on their own.

Amazon Basics Office Scissors

A good pair of scissors can mean the difference between beautifully wrapped gifts and gifts that look like they were ripped by feral animals. If you have scissors already, make sure they’re sharpened so they won’t catch and will cut sharply and neatly. If you need new scissors, this basic Amazon pair stays sharp for a long time, has a comfortable grip, and can be used by right- or left-handed people.

Paper Mate Flair Felt Tip Pens

Although it’s fun to use a variety of colors of gel pens and markers, plain black ink is the easiest to read. These fine-tipped pens write elegantly if you’d like to try your hand at calligraphy or other fancy writing. They’ll glide easily across the kraft paper gift tags, too.

Amazon Basics Tape and Non-Skid Dispenser

This is one of those purchases that seems insignificant, but will change your gift-wrapping life! Having your tape weighted down in a dispenser means you only need one hand to grab a piece so you can hold the wrapping paper in place with the other. I wrestled for years with small, plastic tape dispensers that often broke and were easily lost. This simple little dispenser changed everything.

Whitmor Clear Wrapping Paper Storage Bag

Those of us who store gift-wrapping supplies in a closet or under the bed for most of the year will appreciate this zippered wrapping paper storage bag. It holds up to 25 standard-sized rolls and it’s see-through, so you know what you have at a glance. It also has helpful carrying handles on the top and sides for convenient lifting.

The Best Time of Day To Take Your Vitamins, According to Experts

Ali Eldridge
Health | Updated: August 17, 2026
Better Report

The older I get, the more supplements there are taking up space on my kitchen counter: vitamin D for immunity, B12 for energy, a multivitamin for, well, you name it. The list goes on. For many of us, vitamin-taking has always been a morning thing, starting with our mothers handing them over with breakfast before school. Most days, I remember to take them with my coffee. Other days, I don’t think about them until I’m cleaning up the kitchen before bed, and then spot the bottles, practically shaming me for having forgotten them. And that’s when I wonder: If I take them before I go to sleep, will it make me sick? Does it affect their absorption? To find out, I asked the pros, and here’s what they said we need to know to get the most out of our daily vitamins.

Should You Take Your Vitamins in the Morning?

Turns out, there’s nothing magical about taking your vitamins first thing in the morning. “The reason it’s commonly recommended to take vitamins then is so that people don’t forget,” says Cynthia Odogwu, M.D., lifestyle and family medicine physician. But, she says, all vitamins can be taken at any time of the day, and there is no current research to suggest that fat-soluble vitamins like A, D, E, and K will interfere with sleep.

In other words, when you take your vitamins is more about what works for your schedule, not your body. For some people, that’s in the morning as part of their routine, while others might prefer lunchtime or evening, adds Lauren Manaker, RDN a women’s health and nutrition expert and consultant for MegaFood.

Still, timing can be useful depending on the type of vitamin. “If a vitamin supports energy or sleep, timing it right can give you a better boost — or a better night’s rest,” says Allie Buttarazzi, M.D., internal and lifestyle medicine physician and certified health and wellbeing coach.

Vitamin Best Practices

With that in mind, there are some best practices you may want to keep in mind:

Consider avoiding this vitamin at night: While the science doesn’t point to major issues with most supplements, there are some worth timing thoughtfully. “B vitamins — like B12, folate, and thiamine, for example — play a role in energy metabolism and may promote alertness, so it often makes sense to take them in the morning,” Dr. Buttarazzi says.

Consider taking this one at night: Magnesium can support sleep or calmness, Dr. Buttarazzi says, so it may be better to take it in the evening if you’re looking to wind down.

Do take vitamins with food: Fat-soluble vitamins are best absorbed when taken with a meal that contains some fat, according to Manaker. So, it’s a good idea to take them with lunch or dinner — or breakfast, if it includes things like eggs or avocado. What if nighttime is your only option? Dr. Buttarazzi recommends pairing them with a small snack that includes fat. One exception is iron, which is a little trickier. “It’s absorbed more effectively on an empty stomach,” Manaker says. As always, check the label or talk to your healthcare provider if you’re unsure.

Try habit stacking: To remember to take your vitamins regularly and consistently, pair them with another activity that you do every day, Dr. Buttarazzi suggests. That might mean keeping your vitamins on your vanity next to your moisturizer or beside your coffee maker, so you take them along with something you’re already doing daily. “I take my vitamins right after I refill my water bottle following my morning walk,” she says. “Every Sunday, I prep our weekly pill containers, which makes busy mornings a little faster.”

Find the formula that works for you: If you hate swallowing pills and that keeps you from being consistent, you might prefer gummies or chewable vitamins. “Just be sure to keep up with brushing, since sugary ones can raise the risk of cavities,” Dr. Odogwu says.

Watch for interactions: Some vitamins and supplements can interact with medications, according to Manaker. Always check with your provider before you start any new routine, since a medication you’re on may dictate when you can or can’t take your vitamins.

5 Laundry Mistakes You’re Probably Making

Home | Updated: November 4, 2025

I’ve been doing my own laundry for longer than I can remember, and over all these years, I haven’t given much thought to my routine. But as I’ve gotten older, I’ve come to realize that doing laundry properly can save me money by keeping clothes in good shape longer, including some handknit sweaters that mean a lot to me. If you haven’t thought much about your laundry routine, now might be a good time to reconsider it. Start by checking out this list of common mistakes people make to see if you need to make any tweaks.

Kateryna Hliznitsova/ Unsplash+

Using the Wrong Amount of Detergent

Most of us are using too much laundry detergent. For top-loading washers, most loads require only about two tablespoons of detergent. A front-loading washing machine requires even less, between two teaspoons and one tablespoon, depending on how dirty the load is. When you add too much detergent, it may not fully rinse out of clothing, leaving residue behind that makes them feel stiff or sticky. It can even trap dirt and bacteria back in the fabric you were trying to get clean in the first place. And if you’re a fan of laundry detergent pods, we have bad news. When using pods, it’s hard to know if the dose is right. The best practice is to use liquid detergent, and much less of it than you’re probably used to.

Using the Hot Water Cycle

The hot water cycle can ruin your clothing over time. The heat breaks down clothing fibers, so pieces deteriorate more quickly than when washed in cold water. Hot water relaxes elastic fibers, causing leggings and swimwear to lose shape, and it fades bright colors. Use the hot water cycle only on clothes that need serious disinfecting, or on whites to keep them shining. Use a gentler cold-water cycle for shirts, pants, skirts, and delicates.

Overloading Your Washing Machine

When you overload your washing machine, clothes don’t have enough room to move around or properly soak in water,  which is essential to loosen dirt and grime. It could also mean your detergent isn’t fully rinsed away, so your clothes may end up with residue. If you’re overloading your washer and using too much detergent, your clothes have little chance of actually coming out clean.

If you have a top-loading washing machine, your clothes should be loose in the tub. For a front-loading washer, you should be able to fit your hand comfortably on top of your clothes. If you have to cram things into your washing machine to get them to fit, it’s overloaded.

Using Dryer Sheets

Dryer sheets are a little tricky: they work wonders on some fabrics but can ruin others. You should not use dryer sheets on synthetic fabrics like polyester, nylon, acrylic, and spandex, as they can leave a damaging buildup behind. However, dryer sheets work well on natural fibers like cotton, linen, and wool. Many t-shirts, jeans, and bedding can benefit from a cycle with a dryer sheet to reduce static cling and improve your clothing’s smell.

Not Hanging Your Delicate Items to Dry

Delicate items require a little more care, both in their washing and drying. Handwashing is ideal, but you can usually machine-wash delicates in cold water on a gentle cycle. You might want to consider using a laundry soap specifically formulated for delicate fabrics. When the items are washed, hang or lay them flat to dry. Sweaters, especially, should be laid flat to dry, to help them keep their shape.

Bissell’s Little Green Mini Is the Best Carpet Cleaner Under $100

Ali Eldridge
Home | Updated: January 21, 2026
Better Report

All featured products and deals are selected independently and objectively by the author. Better Report may receive a share of sales via affiliate links in content.

I’ve relied on Bissell to keep my home clean for years, putting several of its carpet and upholstery cleaners to the test against pet stains and foot traffic. Its products have cleaned furniture after moves in a dirty U-Haul, sucked away cat accidents, and assured I always got my security deposit back from carpeted apartments. Of all the stand-up carpet cleaners and handhelds the brand has, the Little Green Machine has been the fan favorite. Bissell outdid itself with the Little Green Mini version, which you can get for under $100.

Prices are accurate as of January 20, 2026. Subject to change.

Why I Like the Bissell Little Green Mini

The original Little Green Machine is a hit for its size and power. The Mini is even smaller without losing suction, so anyone short on space can still have a spotless home. I suggest everyone has a portable machine on hand, like the Mini, for spills on rugs, couches, pillows, mattresses, or pet beds. Its 16-ounce capacity water tank is smaller than the original Little Green cleaner, of course, but that’s still plenty for cleaning most spots — if you need to clean an entire carpet, you’d want one of the brand’s stand-up carpet cleaners. Weighing in at just seven pounds, you can easily tote the Mini up the stairs or to the garage for cleaning stains in the car. Its compact body should fit in small closets, under the sink, or potentially even under your bed.

Plus, the Mini comes with a Tough Stain Tool, equipped with bristles that let you spray, scrub, and suck up whatever mess you’re tackling. One of my biggest peeves about carpet cleaners is that the gunk sucked up from surfaces tends to hang out in the hoses, but Bissell’s HydroRinse Self-Cleaning Hose Tool solves that problem by rinsing out the hose after every use. Just clean the dirty water tank, and your machine should keep running for a long time, tackling thousands of stains. Maintenance is straightforward; as with all wet vacuums, the tanks and hoses must be cleaned thoroughly after use to prevent odors, even if there is no visible debris.

Courtesy of Bissell

Overall, this unit is best viewed as a quick-grab cleaner for smaller messes rather than a heavy-duty machine. If portability and ease of use are top priorities, it hits the mark. If you’re after serious power or larger capacity, it may fall short. But when you’re just managing the occasional accident or an unintentional spill, the Bissell Little Green Mini is more than enough machine. And fellow animal lovers will also appreciate that every Bissell purchase benefits the Bissell Pet Foundation, which partners with shelters across the country to try to find loving homes for all pets in need. I can clean up after my cats and help other cats and dogs? That’s a win-win in my book.

Quip has always been the Instagrammable friend of the toothbrush world. When it released its first electric toothbrush, it was sleeker and thinner than the brushes that came before it. It was, no doubt, a more fun take on a necessary but generally boring tool. Now, a decade later, it has released an even prettier brush, the Ultra Next Generation Smart Sonic Electric Toothbrush.

Prices are accurate as of January, 30 2026. Subject to change.

Instead of plastic, the Ultra is covered in a soft silicone that feels satisfying to the touch. That design aesthetic is also practical. Toothpaste tends to build up and harden on edges and crevices, making brushes grimy and flakey. But here, the body is seamless, save for a strip of metal down each side, so there are no nooks and crannies where toothpaste can collect. Just give it a rinse and place it in its stand.

Quip brushes have long, thin necks. That’s true here as well, but it’s more substantial than the first brush I tried, which felt slightly precarious as I vigorously scrubbed. That thin neck and small brush head easily reach back to clean your molars and tongue.

The Ultra has over 10 intensity levels controlled by swiping up on the LED strip on the front of the brush with satisfying haptics. It goes from gentle to quite intense, so there’s no doubt everyone will find the perfect level for them. Whatever the intensity, the brand says the Ultra removes 15 times more plaque from teeth than a manual brush, with two times more whitening power.

With a 30-day battery life, you can think less about charging. It also makes travel extra easy too. Unless you’ll be away longer than a month, you can leave at least one plug at home.

One great aspect of using an electric toothbrush is that you create less waste over time by only replacing brush heads and not an entire toothbrush. The Ultra takes that a step further, with a unique brush head that uses even less plastic than other brands. Instead of replacing the entire top, just twist and click out the bristles and a small base behind them. According to Quip, the new design creates 70% less waste than its original sonic brush.

The Quip Ultra is a smart brush, which adds to the cost. People tend to love or hate an app-connected brush, but it’s neat if you want to see how thoroughly you’re cleaning — or where you’re missing. I can see it being handy for kids who are learning to brush properly for a full two minutes. By using the app, you earn points that can be redeemed for refills or gift cards, which is a nice insensitive.

I’ve been testing toothbrushes for the last five years, and that includes many of Quip’s lineup, from its basic sonic brush to the oscillating version. The price is steep, but if you can spring for a $100 toothbrush, you’ll get a satisfying clean in a sleek body. Not only is it prettier than the brushes that came before, but it performs better too.

Is Hard Water Ruining Your Hair (and Shower)? Do This Before It Gets Worse

Limescale all over your shower head and inside your kettle, brittle hair, and drier skin are just some of the unfortunate effects of living in an area with hard water. High concentrations of dissolved minerals in your water supply, such as calcium and magnesium, result in a chalky residue covering your tiles and fixtures, which also leaves your hair more vulnerable to breakage. Cities like New York have the added issue of older pipes introducing rust and contaminants, which further exacerbate the damage to your hair, skin, and bathroom suite. Installing an entire filtration system to the water supply is expensive and most likely not an option if you rent. There are, however, a number of steps you can take to keep your hair and skin soft and shiny and your tiles glistening.

Install a Shower Water Filter

Over time, the minerals build up on your hair and tiles, meaning any product used over them first has to fight through a layer of grime. Installing a shower filter helps to reduce the damage, leaving you with less residue to scrape off your shower fittings, hair, and scalp. If you have a glass shower, the difference is visible immediately, and if you have colored hair, it should extend its vibrancy, meaning fewer touchups.“Think of it as your first line of defense,” says Gloria Bonilla, senior colorist at Ollin NYC Salon. “It’s not perfect, but it makes a noticeable difference.” The Jolie filtered showerhead is a favorite of some Better Report staffers. It’s easy to install and looks good too. Bonilla recommends Sproo’s Shower Filter Set, which offers filtration, a handheld showerhead, and a fun color upgrade.

Mineral Remover Treatment

If your hair is already weakened from extensive washing with hard water, using a mineral remover treatment regularly helps to prevent any further damage. They work by pulling out minerals that have already built up on the hair, allowing other products such as conditioners and serums to penetrate the strands and work more effectively. “There are a lot of great options out there now, but The Malibu C Hard Water Wellness Remedy is one of my favorites,” says Bonilla.

Use a Clarifying Shampoo

Clarifying shampoos work specifically to remove metals like copper, nickel, cadmium, lead, zinc, and iron, which can wreak havoc on your hair. If you are blonde or gray, you may notice your strands start to have a muddy or yellow cast to them, due to exposure to these metals. You don’t need to use a clarifying shampoo every wash; once a week should be sufficient to prevent your hair from becoming dull-looking and help maintain its body. Bonilla recommends the K18 Peptide Prep Detox Shampoo, which is color-safe and also works to provide a deep cleanse to the scalp.

Finish Off Your Wash Routine With Micellar Water

While a filter in your shower takes care of your hair, but you might not always wash your face in the shower. Installing one in your bathroom sink may be slightly trickier, depending on the positioning of your taps and faucet. The easiest solution to protect the skin on your face from the drying effects of hard water is to invest in a bottle of micellar water. Once you have removed your makeup, cleansed, and washed as normal, go over your face with micellar water applied on a cotton pad, to remove any residue and reset the skin’s Ph balance. If you suffer from redness or breakouts, this simple step can help to soothe and calm your complexion.

Deep Clean with White Vinegar

If your home has hard water, you are probably at your wits’ end trying to keep your bathroom looking clean. It only takes one shower to cover your freshly scrubbed tiles in that pesky chalky residue, with dark-colored bathroom suites and glass shower doors being particularly hellish to keep stain-free. The best cleaning agent to tackle limescale is, in fact, white vinegar. This relatively affordable cleaning hack effectively breaks down mineral deposits through its acidity, allowing them to dissolve and wash away. For best results, decant the white vinegar into a spray bottle, spritz your shower, and leave for a few minutes before wiping and rinsing clean.

If You’re Over 50, You’re Probably Deficient in This Vitamin

Ali Eldridge
Health | Updated: September 9, 2026
Vitamins in hand
Better Report

If you’re over 50, there’s a good chance you’re not getting enough of one critical nutrient: vitamin D. One study found that 59.7% of men, and 86.5% of women over 50 were deficient in the vitamin. “As we age, our skin becomes less efficient at producing vitamin D from sunlight, and our kidneys, which help convert D into its active form, also become less effective,” explains Lauren Manaker, RDN, a registered dietitian, nutrition expert, and consultant for MegaFood. “On top of that, many of us aren’t eating enough of the foods that naturally contain, or are fortified with, vitamin D, like dairy milk and certain types of fish, like salmon or mackerel.” Add to that the fact that many older adults spend more time indoors and generally shaded from the sun when outside, and it’s no surprise that low levels are so widespread.

What Is Vitamin D And Why Do I Need It?

“Vitamin D is a fat-soluble vitamin that acts more like a hormone in the body,” says Manaker. “It’s essential for absorbing calcium, which is critical for maintaining strong bones and teeth.” Vitamin D also supports immune function, muscle health, and may even impact mood regulation, she adds. Unfortunately, it’s challenging to get enough vitamin D from food alone, and modern lifestyles often limit sun exposure. “Factors like darker skin tones, living in northern latitudes, or wearing sunscreen can further reduce vitamin D production,” Manaker explains.

One of the most well-known consequences of a vitamin D deficiency is weaker bones, as low levels of the vitamin can lead to decreased calcium absorption, increasing the risk of osteoporosis and fractures. But it’s not just your bones. “There’s growing evidence that a deficiency may contribute to cognitive decline, fatigue, and even depression,” Manaker says. Because vitamin D plays a role in brain health and mood, she notes that having low levels can leave you feeling drained, both mentally and physically. It can also weaken your immune system, making you more vulnerable to illness.

Can’t I Just Get It From the Sun?

In theory, yes — but it’s not always practical or safe, Manaker notes. While your skin produces vitamin D when exposed to UVB rays, there are limiting factors, including the time of year, where you live, your skin tone, and how much of your skin is exposed. “Sun exposure is also linked to an increased risk of skin cancer,” she says. “Which is why it’s recommended to limit your time in the sun and use sunscreen to protect your skin.”

How To Up Your Vitamin D Intake

“Correcting a vitamin D deficiency often requires a combination of diet and supplementation,” Manaker says. While incorporating foods like salmon, mackerel, egg yolks, and fortified products into your diet can help, it can be difficult to consistently meet daily requirements through food alone.

When it comes to supplements, the right amount depends on your current levels, which can be measured through a blood test. “While the general recommendation for adults is 600 to 800 IU [international unit] per day, certain populations — including older adults, pregnant women, and those with darker skin — may need more,” says Manaker.

“Some people choose to take a higher dose less frequently, which tends to work just as well as taking a smaller dose every day,” she adds. “It’s important to work with your doctor or dietitian to determine the right dose for your specific needs.” As for the best supplement form? “I recommend sticking with vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) instead of D2,” Manaker says. “D3 is the form that your body naturally produces when your skin is exposed to sunlight, so it’s more effective at raising and maintaining your vitamin D levels.”

The Best Way To Get More Vitamin D

Seed DM-02 Daily Multivitamin

BUY FOR $39.99 AT AMAZON

Getting enough vitamin D — and ideally vitamin D3 — is only one part of a well-rounded wellness routine. That’s why our recommendation is to take the opportunity to address a deficiency by building a new routine around it — and the Seed DM-02 Daily Multivitamin makes it easy to do so. Anchored by a 20 mcg (800 IU) dose of vitamin D3, this multivitamin makes sure you’re getting 100% of your daily value of 20 key vitamins and minerals to help fill common nutrient gaps: vitamins A, C, E, K1, and B, and nutrients like Iodine, Zinc, Selenium, Copper, Manganese, and Chromium.

It addresses an all-too-common deficiency while emphasizing whole-body health — from immune function and aging to strong bones and a thriving gut — using highly absorbable, bioactive ingredients combined with pre- and postbiotics to nourish your gut microbiome. The clever 2-in-1 capsule design is effective, targeted for better absorption, and easy to take every day.

You’re Probably Using Your Oven’s Bottom Drawer Wrong

Home | Updated: September 3, 2026

What’s currently in your oven’s bottom drawer? Are you storing baking sheets and extra pans in it? It seems most of us use this drawer as a handy place to hold our excess cookware, but we probably shouldn’t. Here’s how to check if your bottom drawer is a safe place to store oven-safe items or if it’s actually a “warming drawer.”

Is your bottom drawer just a drawer? It depends. If it isn’t, there’s likely a “warming drawer” button (or buttons if it has extra features) or mode to select on your oven’s electronic dash. Consult your oven’s manual if you’re unsure. My oven has a QR code next to its model number label to access mine. If you don’t have your manual or can’t find it on your machine, you can visit the manufacturer’s website to try to find your model, if it’s a popular one. Otherwise, a reverse image search might help you find a match.

How to Use a Warming Drawer

Your oven may have a fifth burner for keeping cooked foods warm, but if you’re entertaining a crowd, you might be low on space from cooking multiple dishes. The warming drawer is a perfect solution. But note, it’s recommended to only use the warming drawer for between 30 minutes and an hour, depending on what you’ve cooked. Any longer risks the quality of the food, as it might dry out. Just enough time if you’re waiting for people to arrive for a meal, or finish up another dish.

What is it not? A storage place for anything that might melt or anything flammable that might react with heat. Don’t store your plasticware or kitchen towels in the oven drawer. If your drawer is a storage drawer (or a warming drawer you’re using for storage), save it for oven-safe items like cookie sheets, a pizza stone, or pots and pans.

Are There Any Other Uses?

Depending on the size of your drawer and containers, you could use it to proof bread, which is when bread dough is left to ferment and rise before baking it. Some newer ovens have a proof mode for the oven itself, but the drawer is a good option if yours doesn’t, or if your oven is otherwise occupied.

Some warming drawers may also offer a defrost option if you need to defrost food faster than leaving it on the counter for a while, but don’t want to use the microwave. Or the warming drawer can be used to pre-warm plates. Less commonly, it may be a broiler if the heating element is at the bottom of the oven.

Make sure that any dishes you use in the warming drawer are oven-safe, and note that it’s meant for keeping already cooked items warm (or, in the above case, defrosting), not warming up cold dishes. Some oven models even have a slow cook feature for the warming drawer, mimicking a countertop slow cooker. While that added feature might equate to a more expensive oven, it could save some counter or cabinet space.

25 Deals You Can Already Shop From Amazon’s Next Big Sale

Ali Eldridge
Wealth | Updated: October 3, 2025
Better Report

All featured products and deals are selected independently and objectively by the author. Better Report may receive a share of sales via affiliate links in content.

Good deals are an everyday thing on Amazon — click here to jump straight to them — but savvy shoppers know sometimes it’s smarter to wait for one of the retailer’s triannual sales events. Prime Day happens halfway through summer, and the Prime Big Deal Days (aka Prime Day 2) mark the official start to fall. Both rival outlet-agnostic shopping holidays like Black Friday and Cyber Monday are budding holidays (albeit ones without any food) in their own right. Why? Because Amazon has (just about) everything, and the deals are actually pretty good, if you know how to sift through the cheap, poorly-reviewed products that float to the top. Even designer brands are on Amazon nowadays. So are used cars. New ones, too.

This season’s Prime Big Deal Days aren’t until October 7 and 8 (let the countdown begin), but the Better Report staff has been working hard, digging up deals already — like the lowest price to date on the viral Ninja Creami, which crafts custom ice cream treats in minutes. Expect 48 hours filled with thousands of deals on everything from derm-approved retinol serums and ice cream machines to TVs and new pillows. We’ll compile all our favorites once the event begins, but we’ve already seen a few sales that have already started.

Whether you’re looking for a generator (just in case), a splash from the fountain of youth, a guard dog (with a built-in light), or a watch that’ll count your steps, Amazon Prime Big Deal Days has something for you — and if you’re a member, you can save even more. (Some deals are for Prime members only.) Our favorite “budget” TV is the cheapest it’s been all year. The most efficient travel steamer is nearly 30% off. There’s a new low price on BAGSMART’s award-winning, water-resistant tote. There are countless other deals to explore (and take advantage of). We’ll update this list with new savings until the big event begins. Then, we’ll start adding deals to our Amazon Prime Big Deal Days mega-list.
